Title: Looking for some introductory help
Post by: dmather on March 25, 2011, 08:15:01 PM
This is one of the most unintuitive programs I've come across in awhile, I'm just looking for an introductory guide or tutorial. I bought this to do some remodeling on an old farm house but there just doesn't seem to be an easy way to get started. The bathroom wizard does not offer a layout that even remotely matches what I am looking to do. How do I design a room from scratch?

thanks in advance!

Hi and Welcome to the forum,

If you want to draw a room from scratch, just cancel the wizard and you will be left with a blank page.  All you need to do then is select a wall and click, drag, click, drag, click for each corner and finally it will snap to the start point.  From there you just select doors, windows etc and click them into the positions you want - slide them along if necessary.  Ceiling and roof are the same, select one and just click inside the room and they are added automatically. Click the 3D view button and you can walk through it.

Very easy really once you see how it works.

I am currently putting together a simple illustrated PDF of these steps, but not quite finished yet. I will see if I can finish it this weekend.

In the meantime, try the basic steps above and ask when you get stuck.

these key words may help you get going....

TFP best for creating stuff from the 2D floor plan view (one floor seen and operated upon at a time...if you have more than one floor); select which floor from the list, add as many as needed. Then view in 3D....trying to move stuff in 3D is too difficult. Setup view manager to easily jump between 2D and 3D views.

Easiest to drag out general wall locations, then when all in place, adjust as needed to exact dimensions....then add doors and windows....then ceiling and roof (tho exact order is more of your preference and way of working), then textures of floors, walls, etc. Then add furniture and landscaping.  Best to have a general idea/sketch before you start.

Plan ahead for camera views and do test renders as you go.

Search this forum for any key word questions...ask as needed. Best to show a picture or .bld file for specific issues/questions.

TFP used mostly for viewing results as 3D renders and walk/fly thru/by animations....including lighting, sun/shade and landscaping over time.
It is not well suited to make construction plan drawings.

Found under Help are two fully descriptive documents on how the program works. Quick Start Guide and Users Guide.

In addition under Help is the Tutor, which should have been active when you installed the program. As you select some tools it shows how to use them.

You must have done some investigation , because items like the Kitchen Wizard is one of the least obvious tools in the program.

I'd suggest you read the Users Guide and get a much more rounded view of the tools in the program rather than rely on the Wizard tools.

Here is an oldie but a goodie. After video 1 finishes , you will see video #2 but after that you would have to type in to find #3 and #4.
