Title: Task Tracker opinions
Post by: Jack Zimmer on April 01, 2011, 11:48:07 PM
I thought I'd ask before going any further with this idea.

I would appreciate your thoughts.

Basically Task Tracker takes advantage of tools that are already in TurboFloorplan and other Cadsoft products. It is simple to set up and to use. It takes the tasks that would be involved in a Remodeling / Interior Design or Addition and allows the end user to update the status of the tasks in a fast and simple way.

The updated Report contains the task, status and cost , so any project can take advantage of it.

I'd appeciate your thoughts on its' usefulness.

thanks

Jack          (can't upload pdf , so here is jpg of adverstising) (I haven't completed it yet , still testing , so nothing is on my website)

Hi Jack! Look like a great tool, but how will it interact with TFP and ENV, will it be a plugin that then you have completed on task it will automatic upgrade the drawing.

Thanks  Robert !!!

No 'programing' or 'plug in' type of solution.

It just takes advantage of what is in the program. It has no interaction with walls or any other elements previously drawn in the program. (for instance it will not add a door to a solid wall when you say that job has been completed).

Think of it as a 'shopping list' that is embedded in the bld file.

The problem with 'notes' written on the drawings is that they have to be printed out with the drawing.  Handwritten notes get lost. Txt files and Excel files have to be filed and then accessed. Instead you can insert a symbol / add a 'note' to that symbol and it will be added to the Report for quick review, it will be contained in the bld file. When ready you can export it's current status from the Report.

No Rocket Science involved - just a common sense solution to a common set of problems.

Symbols contain the information
The bld file contains the Symbols
Report is generated from Analysis tab

Track Anything actually:

Everyone can track Job Progress
Designers / Users can track changes needed to a Model
Builders can assign daily tasks
Interior Designer as a check list
Homeowners to list decisions to be made - areas of concern

The best thing about it is that the 3D Model View contains all the information in one place that is easy to access and understand.

I just drew up a tree house for the Grandkids. I then used Task Tracker to highlight what had to be done. They loved holding the cursor over the Symbols , reading the model 'Notes' and taking the printed Task Tracker list home with them.

Thanks for the comment Robert. Let me know further thoughts.

Interesting and good concept with possible varied uses and very useful.....

with 3 thoughts:

- as an "add-on" (or however it gets into the .bld file -- import catalog of objects?)......it will need to be rather inexpensive as compared to the program cost

- some views don't show the arrows very well...either have easy ability to orient the arrow....or add ability to use a rectangular "frame" (like a window) to show/highlight the item under discussion.....
and/or have easy instructions to "paint" or change the object color/texture to match the "arrow" or other 3D object icon.

- have the object icon colors change (optional) with the "status" of progress

like anything with planning....pictures worth 1,000 words,
But people don't like tedious tracking tasks...so it must be fast and easy.....maybe need "check boxes" so when a job gets it's part done, the worker can just "x" a box on the job order paper print...like a check list.

How about $9.95 ?

I wasn't thinking about program cost but your right Doug, TFPlan and HGTV are or can be <$50.  I don't think it would be worth while going less than $10 with cost of handling the transactions.

With construction slow, now would be a good time to do some training stuff , but it takes a lot of time. I run my own business so I can't give stuff away and still pay my bills.

=========================

Once a task it define ,which is simple and fast, changing it status is also fast and simple. A check box will not show up in the Report so I've devised a duplicate method from within the program that works well.

I don't want color change to indicate status, that show up in the report and when you hold the cursor over the symbol. Colors are there to indicate the type of task, like Red for Remove / and Green for Add.

Thanks for the input Doug

Hi Jack,

Great idea and yes, less than $10.00 sounds better  ;D

Just an additional idea (not sure if it is feasible) --> some type of cloud or sticky note, not linked with a specific task, but with all the work
