Title: changing path to garden.db
Post by: timf on May 10, 2011, 11:19:45 PM
Long time lurker 1st time poster.

I have TFP15 and I am having issues accessing the garden items. I get an error message indicating that the garden.db is locked by another process and states that the path is "C:\All Users\Application Data\.....\garden.db". It then rotates through about 50 windows with 'tab' errors before returning to the original locked error message and repeating. I then have to kill TFP via the task manager. All other functionality and databases are fine except this one.

I have been into the programme settings and checked all the file paths. All the ones I could set are set correctly but there is no entry for the garden db. Being an I.T geek from way back I hunted through the registry to see if there was an entry there but alas none that I could find.

So my question is, can you change the path to the garden.db?

TFP is installed in "D:\IMSIDesign\TFP......" as are all my other programs/data. I run a small SSD for the O/S (C: drive) and soo to keep that lean, mean and super fast (best improvement in computers in years are the SSD's), I install all my apps and data onto the raid5 array.

Thanks in advance

Tim

Hi Tim and Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear about your issues with the Garden.db. I can sympathise, as I had the same issue some time ago and it turned out to be a real saga and actually not related at all to TFP.  In my case it was an issue with Windows Vista, that got itself in a knot that no one could undo and resulted in Vista be reinstalled and eventually the whole computer replaced - because it was stollen from the repair shop!

Now whether your problem is the same thing or not I do not know, but the symptoms sound identical. I am not going to attempt suggest what to do either, as I am not good with the Idiosyncrasies of computers! Pat talked me through my dilemmas, so he may be able to help or suggest something to narrow down the problem. If you want to look though my Vista issue, you will find it from 'Reply 8' in this post: http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1164.0.html (http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1164.0.html).

I hope your problem proves simpler to solve than mine was!!

Hi Tim,

The problem is, indeed, related with the location and also, I presume, with disk permissions

Lets try to find a simple solution --> regarding the D disk --> when you use a program installed in D --> can the program read and write in the disk? Do you need Adm privileges to access the disk?

Did you look in D: drive and is the .db file there and seem to be a reasonable file size?  i.e. maybe it did not get installed properly?

In program settings, does it point to the proper D: drive location? for files

Thanks gents.

Nothing to do with security etc. Fixed it by copying the garden.db into the path it expected to find on the C: drive. Though I had to expose hidden files in windows explorer to find the c: drive folder.

Sorry Doug, but TFP does not expose the path information in the program settings for the plant encyclopedia like all the other path settings. Thats probably a bug.

Tim
