Title: Chimneys missing
Post by: gwp on August 15, 2011, 12:22:54 PM
I know this prog isn't a lot of money, but it seems to have garden plants, bar-be-ques etc, but it doesn't have chimneys.
As i am Uk based and plan to use this software for a lot of roof remodelling jobs, this does pose quite an issue for me.
(Lots of chimneys on Uk homes :) )

Is ot me, or have i missed something ?

We very rarely have chimneys at all in Australia and I don't recall ever having had to use one in about 10 years or more using the program, but a chimney is just normally 4 brick walls except of course they are set to go through the roof. Unless you are referring to the chimney pots they use on the top (?).  You could just use a round Column for those. Having said that I seem to recall seeing chimneys somewhere in the Cataloge. Not under Hvac are they (Interior Accessories)? (I am away from the computer at present).

No, i have looked there.
There must be Uk users here that have had to use chimneys.maybe in V16 they are there :)

For chimney pots you could use the cyliners. See the post at the top about Useful Shapes - may be under the Tips and Tricks section of the forum. Also try the forum Search as it must have come up before.

Hi gwp,

You will find a chimney at HVAC Elements --> Ventilation --> Chimney
Also go to HVAC Elements --> Heating --> some of the fireplaces have a chimney, so you can customize this element

Of course, you can import different chimneys as objects (Sketchup or 3DS, for example)

Hi gwp!
As Pat Wrote HVAC Elements /Ventilation/ there is a Chimney both in V15 as in V16

But a other way to do a chimney is to use Columns and do your own chimney.

Select Columns
Right click in the catalog and select Element Manager

Select  if you will us a Concrete Columns / Steel Columns or Brick Columns  (You  you fined your Chimney in that folder later)
Open the folder of Columns you have selected
Right click in the left column select Add a element
Go to properties set the parameters for your chimney  Define Column height select User defined
Select Appearance and select what Material you will use
Then your have your custom chimney click on OK and the chimney will save in the catalog

I have also built a chimney using regular walls....to build a rectangular shape....including it tapering to a smaller rectangle at higher location....and can cap it with a mortar look.

Walls give you lots of control if you need a rectangular shape....just build a small "room" at height you need.

Following on from Roberts suggestion - if you need a tapered chimney, don't forget that V16 now has tapered columns, so it is easy to add a tapered chimney, even with rounded corners.
