Decks. When I use the deck tool I do not get the measurements. I click and drag to create the deck shape but don't get measurements. I have checked the help and tutor and follow instructions but can't get measurements. Is this a program bug? Unlike the house builder wizard which shows measurements when dragging to extend or shrink building size.

Hi Romeo,
Welcome to the forum.
This is not a bug - it is only walls that have that type of dimension line as you draw it, but you can see the measurements as you draw the deck in the Commander Bar at the bottom of the screen - the distances will change as you draw the outline. If the Commander bar is not there, it may be turned off. You can turn it on in Settings / Program Settings / Workspace and tick the Commander box.

Thanks Alan.
When building the deck the commnder tool shows measurements OK. When I try to edit deck size commander tool does not show measurements. How to I see measurements once deck is built.

Hi Romeo,
There are a number of options:
You could guess it by comparing it with the Grid. (Approximate)
You can guess the distance and use the Tape Measure to check it (Messy).
You could add a Linear Dimension from one end to what you want the new length to be and then drag the edge to that point. (Potentailly accurate but a two step process).
The proper way however is to extend the deck by a predetermined distance.
Say you want to extend it by 1 metre (or 3'):
1. Select the deck,
2. Right click and select Move Edge,
3. Click the centre marker of the edge you want to move (Commander bar will appear)
4. Type in the extension amount in to the Commander Bar 'Distance' field (1m or 3')
5. Enter the 'Direction' in degrees you want it to extend.
6. Press Enter (the edge of the deck will extend by the amount you entered)
You can do the same thing but select 'Stretch' on the right click, but this will only move one corner (creating a sloping end). You need to do this twice (with the other corner) to make it square again.
Not quite a simple as getting a measurement as you drag a wall but it works and is precise.
