Allan :
I was following the post on Adding Custom Lights. I followed your directions to the T. And I still had a problem getting the lights to "light up". I've got a couple of shots of the results. In the Elements Manager it shows that the light has all the right "properties". And the other dialog box doesn't have any properties to adjust the light (as far as brightness and color). I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I did accidentally add the light twice.

You may be OK....look at the "lights" tab....you should see a red small cube; that is the light source location....and the place you set light properties such as type (color) and wattage
But in the dialog box, I did not see a lights tab; indicating an error somewhere with the import.
Look at a light from within TFP and compare that dialog box to the one you got from importing.
Also suggest you capture slightly larger .jpg images....like 800x600; much easier to read any details.
Hi Garystan,
Looks add. Can you give me a screen image of the Lights tab on the Elements Manager view (a little larger as Doug suggested)? Do the light properties show on that?
Can I just get you to review or repeat the steps in the simple terms below, to check this is what you did?
1. In the Catalogue panel on the right of the screen, select Lighting (no need to use Elements Manager)
2. Right click on one of the lights or headings and select Add Element.
3. A lighting dialog appears and it should automatically have a light bulb assigned on the lighting tab - did it?
4. Now back to the Basic tab again, click the Select button (bottom of dialog), browse to your 3DS object and import it, setting the size roughly as you do so if necessary.
5. With the dialog still open, go to the Light tab again - the bulb should still be there - is it?
6. Change the bulb if you want, Appearance etc. and that is it.
Is that what you did? When you repeat the process in these steps does it work?

Allan/Doug :
After rechecking my custom light, I noticed that in the Element Manager there is a red dot. But, I also right-clicked the custom light within the project, and no "lights" tab. I then checked in the Catalog/Interior Lighting and saw the two listings for the same light. I deleted one (apparently this was the "bad" one). The other one was "in proper working order", including the "lights" tab, where I can do the wattage adjustments and all that stuff.
Sorry for the insanity. Just a few hours before rechecking this, I happened to remember, in my 70s Project, the light I imported (it wasn't stock TFP Lighting) was also an .skp file and it worked fine. That's what got me to thinking, "So........what's IS the difference ? Both are .skp files, so both should import the same"
Thanks for the support guys. By now, I should have, pretty much, have this stuff figured out.
