Title: customizing things
Post by: George Smith on March 19, 2012, 12:20:24 PM
Why not allow the user to customize which buttons he wants in each tab/menu?   It is very rare to find a software program anymore that doesn't allow this.

For example, I would immediately get rid of 10 of the 12 buttons on the "Zoom and Navigate" toolbar, 7 of the 13 buttons on the "View Control" toolbar.

I would clean up all the Tabs that I leave docked up there too.

There are also some commands that I would add to the screen (e.g. Measure, View>Render3d, Save As, etc)

In fact, I could probably put every single command that I use regularly in ONE SINGLE tabbed toolbar at the top plus ONE SINGLE normal toolbar at the bottom.

This would certainly be an excellent option. People obviously work differently and use some features more than others, so to remove ones not used would be great to remove unnecessary clutter. To be able to compile a "Frequent Tools" toolbar would also be great!

Interesting though I would only remove 2 from the Zoom and Navigate and 2 from View Control. All the others I use constantly - I suppose that illustrates how people work differently.

a "custom" toolbar that a user could add any of his favorite or most used tools (or any function) would be valuable.

Along with that should be ability to use assigned keystroke shortcuts (not just windows menu keys)....and let the user change or assign for ease of use and consistency with other programs when possible.  Since Envisioneer (parent) already has this feature, it would be easy to implement.
