Title: FIRST TRY on STAIRS
Post by: gelagirl on March 28, 2012, 03:36:52 PM
Hi again...

Checked my "playing around list" again, and ended up doing my first try on stairs. I had to do it my way to get it the way I wanted it.

1 - A 2 store building where the sec. floor got a curve.
2 - Made the hole with the room div tool.
3 - Went to ground floor where the stair came along.
4 - Dragged the hole lines where I wanted it after having vut it
5 - Matched it together... Dropped some color here and there...
6 - Set a wall , used the opening tool.
7 . Went upstairs again, used the beam to do the safety area around the stairopening. Windows are just placed to help me controlling all of it. Same with the long list of camera angles. So far everythings ok..

* But...of course I got a little issue again... when I try to place an object close to the stairs - downstairs on groundfloor, the stair let the new object -> a beam go through without stopping. WHY does that happen? Collision controll is on.
Is it just the life of the stair or can I do anything to stop it?

I am not finished with the house.. I just had to show it off to you and maybe get a few comments...

Yellow is absolutly a good color to work with.. hehe.. :)

If you are inserting something close to the stairs and Collision is on, then it should stop you but only if you are on the location where the stairs are inserted. You mentioned the Ground Floor and presumably that is where your stairs are inserted, so it should work - does for me.

Does Collision stop other objects going through the stairs? What actually is the "beam" you are referring to?

Also - did you by any chance, forget to attach the image?  ;)

Yup I forgot the image...  Oh goodness I had my blonde lunch.. Hahahaha...

I was on ground floor..

EDIT: I figured out why it went thru on the first try..by doing another two floors house with stair.. I had to do it on the plan view NOT 3D...

Hi Gelagirl.

If you go to View > Dynamic Cutaway, you can choose the 'side' you want to cut from and use the slider to do the 'cut away' ,

I positioned the camera on the back of your model, used the 'Back' DynCut option and moved the slider bar to slice away the building so that a portion of the stair was showing.

The result is that you don't have enough head room on the stair to use it. 6'8 would be the minimum you should have. Looks like you have to enlarge the cut out area which will force you to relocate the Dining table.

Also , you can reduce the number of steps down to 15 which gives a 182mm (7"+) riser height. This will help with head height.

Looking good though on the rest of your work.

Jack

Thanks Jack. I really enjoy having fun with TFp.
And it is great to have pro-mentors on this board. I shall use that cut away tool more often.. Guess I will learn even more from looking at my house that way..

Sidetrack: reminds me of the small dollhouses we were playing with when I was a little kid...

Btw like your websites.
