Title: Renderer error
Post by: MrRam on April 06, 2012, 05:40:12 PM
I tried to render my project and got this error message: (any ideas as to why and how to fix) I would hate to have to redraw this whole project. Tried to change acceleration, no help. Rebooted, no help, defragged, no help.

3D RealView error
Renderer: File parse error
File: Obj_965_1_0 .ent

Thanks for any help.

Hi there,

A parse error means a coding error while a program is doing a conversion / translation using a compiler, but I see 2 issues here

1 -  The error mentions "RealView" --> are you trying to render images or trying to create an animation?
2 - I noticed that you had another "File parse error" issue in Jan/2011, did you find the cause of this problem?

I am trying to render. NO animation at all. On the error last year, I never found an answer, I just redrew it and all was fine. I just rebooted again, checked for Nvidia updates and undated. I then opened Turbo again and tried and this time same error message except new number Obj_653_1_0.ent. Guess I'll just have to redraw it. I had already finished 5 drawings with no problem yesterday and today, but this was the sixth and it came up with the error. No one last year was able to answer my problem then either.

my interpretation of the error is that render failed because it hit a "bad" object.

Typical problem is a mis-matched/mis-made corner where walls join, or an imported object that has a bad construct, or an object with surfaces/vertices that are crossed/extended out far distances, or similar mis-shapen set of facets...causes are variable.

Start with zoom to all/extents....to look for any "stray" objects or vertex points
Next closely inspect every wall join, especially where there is a "T"; look for neat 45 degree blends.

The last approach is to (on a backup copy file), delete 1/2 the objects...if fixed it was one of those, if not delete other half...keep doing 1/2's until you find the bad object...despite the work it is often faster than a re-do of the whole project.

The most common mistakes are not noticed...an accidental click or a wall join that works but is not accurate unless seen zoomed-in very close.

Hi MrRam,

If you experienced 2 parse errors with 5 different files, probably the program's installation is corrupted

Try to unistall and perform a clean installation

I had already finished 5 drawings with no problem yesterday and today, but this was the sixth and it came up with the error.

If I am understanding this comment correctly you have done 5 drawings (models) that render OK but only the 6th one had the parse error. If that is correct it indicates to me an issue with the model itself. Have you tried File / Repair Project?  It may find the problem object and delete it.  If not, there is no need to delete objects to find the one with the problem, although that would work obviously, but if you simply use the View Filter and turn off things one at a time, you can find the problem without deleting anything.

In View Filter, turn off one element group (eg Walls) and, if it then renders OK, there is an issue with a wall somewhere. If it crashes with walls turned off, turn them on again and turn off Floors and render again. Still crashes, turn Floors back on and turn off Ceilings and so on until, with just one set of elements off, it renders OK. This narrows down which element group has the problem. If you have several floor levels (Building Locations) you can turn on the elements that caused it to crash and then turn off one of the Building Locations and narrow it down to one group of elements on one Location. Then it is a question of deleting each element and rendering until you find the culprit.

If you do it this way you will not lose any of your model except the one that has the problem.  If it does turn out to be Walls (they most likely cause) then as Doug said you need to closely check the joins and redo any that look doubtful (especially if you have played around with them while making the original model).

Of course if that does not work then you may have to reinstall as Pat suggests.

Thanks for the information. I will try these and get back to you all as to the results and where I had the problem. I am sure that I just "screwed up" one area and it could have been when importing items or when I angled some of the walls incorrectly. Will let you know. Thanks again!

If the walls are the problem check these posts if you have not already seen them, as they may help you identify the problem wall joins:

The image below is an example of the wall fragments that can occur in a bad wall join. You need to highlight the wall join by zooming in close and draging the mouse over the join so that the bits of wall show.

Found the error. It was the insertion of a metal door. For some reason the insertion of a metal door in the kitchen for the pantry caused it to error. Thanks again!  :)

Thanks for letting us know that you found the problem.  Can't say I have heard of a door causing such a problem before - unless maybe it was something to do with the wall the door was in.  Anyway - it is sorted out so that is good!!  :D
