I'm having a heck of a time figuring out how to do what I'll call short dormers. I've attached a pic of what I'm trying to do. I want the dormers on the 2nd story... I've used the dormer tool, tried to make breaks in the roof to do it, etc. with no luck....
Ideas? Thanks.

Hi Danny! Welcome to the forum!
You use the break.
Follow this point corrsponde to same points int image smalDorm.png
1. Make a Gable roof, then click on the side of the roof there you will ad small dorms. as in img. look att the green arrow
2 Right click and select break and click at the marked place on the green line, that will give you 2 small dormes. se the green arrows,
3. With the green arrows selected right click and select properties, then select roof shape gable, and click OK that will give you 2 dorms with same slope value as the other roof.
4. To change the slope value select the green arrows, then right click select properties as in image smalDorm2.png change the slope value as in this example I chose 8. That will give a nice small dorm.
Fore ease dorm you need 2 break points, as this example 4 break points

Thanks. That worked, but it took me a couple tries.
For anyone that finds this in the future, I'll mention that you have to be really careful about how you use the break tool and then be really careful that you only choose the dormer areas to convert to gable. It's really easy to hose up the whole roof very quickly...

Hi Shorin,
Working with Breaks can be a challenge sometimes. Here is a different way to do it (there are often several ways to do things) that you MAY find easier (if you need to do it again).
1. Choose the same roof and set the pitch for your gables (if they are different). Right click and choose' Roof By Picking Points' (essential to choose this or it will delete your existing roof) and draw a square about the width of your proposed gable, making sure it extends outside the roof line and well inside too.
2. A hip roof 'extension' will be formed, as part of the main roof - select the front edge only (green arrow) and change it to Gable.
3. Drag this edge in toward the main roof's green line but do not cross it - zoom in and get it a close as possible to the main roof line without crossing it and you are finished. If you go too far just undo (Ctrl+Z) and drag it in again.
Using this method the new roof makes the breaks. The only drawback is that you MAY see a very slight line on the facia where it intersects. The closer you are able to drag in step 3, the smaller this line will be. Generally it will not be visible.
