I am trying to follow the TFP help on the "Matching Roof Planes" as in the attached screen capture, but it is not working for me. The roof was created by using the roof tool. Tried with roof created both ways, by points and by perimeter and neither worked. Could someone verify please?

Hi Elie,
There are two critical aspects: (1) That you click on the surface you want to match to first and then the one you want to change. The other aspect (2) is that both sections of roof must slope in exactly the same direction. If you drew either of the two roof areas 'By Picking Points', are you sure that the edge of this roof is exactly parallel with the other? If you did not have Ortho turned on, then it is possible this roof section is at a slight angle, which would mean that the two planes are not in the same EXACT direction and so they will not match.
Check these aspect out and let us know what you find.

The orhto was on. In the attached drawing, I am attempting to plane match roof Plane B with roof Plane A. Following the instructions provided in the program did not lead to success. What is it that I am missing?
Is there a good tutorial on roof customization and modification for TFP?

Hi Elie,
The only problem I can see with it is that the pitch is too high, so when the plane tried to match, it would take the roof several feet BELOW the wall that is supported to be supporting it!
Maybe the message is misleading by saying the "planes do not match" but I suppose from the program's perspective they dont since it won't extend below the bottom of the wall, so at that point the planes would not match.
If you change the pitch to 6 for example, instead of 12, it works just fine.

Your explanation makes sense. The help file drawing is a little misleading. I was under the assumption that the pitch will be changed by the program automatically (it sounds like the match planes command is semiautomatic). No big deal, I am just experimenting with the program.

Hi Elie,
No it will not change the pitch - that would defeat its purpose which is to retan the picth and force something else to comply with it. One of the main reasons for it is to attach things to the roof or other sloping surfaces - eg exposed beams inside a room with a sloping ceiling.
