I am in the process of building my home and have done the drawings in TFP v16. Wonderful program and much easier than AutoCad.
My question is this: I have drawn a left turn stairway that has a landing between the 8th and 9th tread and am trying to measure the height of the landing. How do you do this? Since I am the one building the stairs it would be nice to have some accurate dimensions.
Have also experienced problems because of a gap between floors in 3D view. What is that about and can that be adjusted out?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! You cant measuring the height direct, but you can see the height in properties and calculate the height. Or you can make Jacks measuring-stick instruction and textures in this post http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,1068.msg5168.html#msg5168

Normally there is a "gap" between floors (default) of 1' to account for sub floor and joist structures and ceiling of lower floor and space for plumbing and HVAC ducts and perhaps insulation.
Most surface (non-solid) modelling programs have no plane thickness (not needed for visualization/rendering) but for accuracy in real construction you must account for the underlying structure and TFP does this.
See location settings and help file for those settings.
What is your "problem" with the 'gaps'? If exterior, check for drop to set exterior to cover the 1' space. If camera gets into odd views, some objects disappear or get in the way of the camera lens...adjust camera position a little at a time....or do like movie sets and hide or remove or make a wall transparent temporarily.
For landing height: you could make a screen shot of an elevation view, print, calculate the scale from a known distance such as the height between floor and ceiling = 8' (such as 8' = 6"), and then measure and apply scale to determine the height of anything relative to the floor.

Hi Gerry,
Jack's measuring stick works well for measuring vertically in 3D and is ideal for placing objects in cabinets etc. You can also use the dimensions tool to get exact vertical measurements if you want, but it is a little more complex. What you need is an Elevation or Section that shows what you want to measure. Now you have that view on screen got to File / Export and export it as a 2D DXF file. You can now import this DXF back into the same or another project and it now sits flat on the plan and you can use the Tools / Dimensions / Linear Dimensions to take measurements to you hearts content. Zoom in close and you will get very exact measurements.
The gap you are talking about sounds like the Drop Face in the second floor wall Properties is set to zero. The Drop Face extends the exterior wall surface down over the edge of the floor /ceiling space that Doug referred to. You may also have the same problem on the ground floor if you are using the same walls - it is just not so obvious until you start creating photocrealistic images - then you see the shadow underneath!

Hi Gerry,
I briefly saw your question about importing and guess you found it and removed the post. I should have mentioned to use the Import Wizard. Obviously insert it somewhere out of the way of the plan, then you can print it and delete when you have all the measurements you need.

Thanks Allan, I was able to get it accomplished by going to the import drawing and typing *.dxf in the file name and then they showed up. I tried in TurboCad and the measurements were way off. So I like the way you suggested and have gotten all of the info I needed.

I am glad that worked for you. Normally you would use the Import Wizard but it does work if you type the full name in.

When you import to TCAD you must select the dxf option and before saying OK go to the settings option and change the scale to mm milimeters, your file will then import to scale.
If you are trying to create Working Drawings from all your TFPlan work, you should get my TFPlan to TCAD training video. It has all the instructions on importing from TFPlan, it has a predefined template that automatically populates Paper Space with your imports of Plans, Sections, Elevations etc.
You are the reason I made the videos :-) and others like you.
