I know how to break a wall into two vertical sections so the properties (thickness, appearance) can be changed individually for each section.
But how do I create 'horizontal breaks' so that I can (for instance) paint the top part in a different color than the bottom?
Or make the top part thinner than the basis?
You can do this by going to the Wall's Trim properties. If you are not using a Baseboard then you can just make that higher and thicker but the proper way to do it is to select Custom and choose a Wainscot. This can be any height, thickness or texture you specify. It is part of the wall so will automatically cut around windows and doors if necessary. It can be specified on the left or right side of a wall or on the Exterior (or all of them).
In case you did not know, the left or right side of a wall is determined by the direction it was drawm The green marker indicates where you started and the red one where you finished - so it is left and right observing that direction. The Exterior surface will only appear ,or be relevent, if the walls join to form an enclosed space. TFP then determines that the total outside area is the Exterior and the exterior properties will then be applied.
