I am working on a project with roofs drawn on 3 different locations. I have no problem changing overhangs on 2 of the locations, but whenever I attempt to change the overhang on the third one, say from 1' to 2' a little bell goes of and it defaults back to 1 foot. I'm sure its something simple, but i cannot figure this out...

Hard to tell without seeing it but if you are unable to change a normally editible option, it generally means something else is affecting it. Is it a gable, or hip? what pitch? When you extend the Overhang, the Overhand Drop will extend also - is that 'drop' extending down into something? For example, if you have a very steep roof and extend the Overhang out so far that the Overhang Drop takes it below the floor level, it will not extend further and will beep at you.

I was using very short walls (1/8"). apparently, when the overhang is lowered to a certain point relative to the wall bottom, it cannot be extended. thanks for your help.

Not sure why you are using short walls, unless it is an attic, but if you use Roof By Picking Points you may be able to accomplish what you are trying to do.

Tom, I've been having the same problem. Allan, Thank you for pointing out that the roof CANNOT overhang below the base level of the location. This solution will work for a roof by perimeter (although if you pick the points using the perimeter as a guide it will also work.)
I used Allan's hint to "solve" the problem by taking a copy of the roof to my temporary location in the sky (10 meters above my building) and working on it there before transporting it to its ultimate location, which is the storey below the one with the overhanging roof.
RAISE THE TEMP ROOF so that it is high enough that the desired overhang can be set. Now you can set the desired overhang. Note that a roof has a support height in the Roof Properties dialog instead of an Elevation.
WRAP TEMP ROOF AROUND NEXT STOREY: In the Roof Properties click on Solution and click the leftmost option to automatically cut the roof around the next storey.
Now go back to the REAL ROOF on the real location. Remove the overhang from each edge by setting the overhang to zero in the properties. If the edge of the roof is not on the OUTSIDE of the storey's perimeter walls, move the roof edges to be on the outside edge of the walls. (Create roof by perimeter places the edge of the roof in the CENTER of the outside walls, not at the OUTSIDE EDGE.)
PLACE TEMP ROOF ON THE LOCATION BELOW THE REAL ROOF. (The storey below).
RAISE the TEMP ROOF on the lower location (Change Supports in the Roof Properties) to align with the edges of the REAL roof. You can calculate the height, or just eyeball it with a camera (a little tedious) and adjust it in the properties. I have learned to keep a calculator handy.
Voila, you have your overhang. See attached pictures. If you don't align it perfectly (I didn't) you can find the join, but it was good enough for me. (The pics are very compressed, so a little fuzzy, but it illustrates the idea.)

Hi Cyndi and Tom,
I am not quite sure I am understanding the problem here. If you want to insert a roof on a tiny wall and have a long Overhang (Eaves), all you need to do is set the Overhang that you want in the roof in the catalogue BEFORE you insert it. It will retain the long overhang - it cannot be adjusted afterward on short walls. If you make the ends Gables, then you will be able to adjust the Overhang of the roof over the gable walls.

:) Thanks again Allan! I've been struggling with this (simple) roof on and off for quite some time. I never thought of changing it in the catalog before inserting the roof! Yes, I can always change the gable overhang later.
