Hi and thanks for all past help. Slowly I'm getting my model built, but I'm stymied (again) by a seemingly small issue: I've got the roof right, and I got a gable in it correctly, but I can't figure out how to trim the main roof so that it doesn't protrude under the gable (see screen shot.) I tried selecting the main roof and cutting an opening, but it had no effect. Converting to surfaces made the inside go strange, with extra edges that don't show up when it is a roof, so I'm trying to avoid that. (In addition, I would like the gable overhang to be 1' wider than it currently is, and I can't figure out how to do that either.) Thanks in advance-

Hi Kris,
The solution to this problem depends on how you create the gable. Done in the 'normal' way the roof would be automatically trimmed. Is the gable section on a different location maybe and you just cut a hole in the main roof where the gable is? If this is what you did then you will find that you cannot cut off the angles of the main roof because they are actually the roof overhang, not the roof itself so it will always extend at right angles and leave the corners you have.
Again IF this is what you did you could select the main roof, remove the overhang by setting it to 1mm, 1" or other tiny amount and drag the edge of the roof back out to where you want the edge of it to be.
If you created the gable section another way then let us know how so we can give some guidance what to do.
Normally a gable such as this would be added onto the original location but drawing the gable section as a rectangle by using the Roof by Picking Points option. It will just snap into the main roof and become paert of it and you can then just drage the front edge of the gable section back in as close as possible to the main roof line. Hopefully you will get the idea from the image below.

Hi Allan. Thanks for the guidance. When i did it, I created the main roof, then "broke" it at the endpoints of the gable, and changed the resulting section to gable (following, I thought, the directions given in one of these forum posts.)
Following your instructions, I did get it to work and trim correctly, but it seemed a bit touchy as to the size and placement of the square (or rectangle)--sometimes I got a 4 sided hip roof instead of three, and sometimes TurboFP simply crashed (which happened quite a few times!). What's the magic to picking the points?

Hi Kris,
I have used this method many times but have never experienced the problems you had, certainly not the crashing. I will just go though the steps I use, which may help you see whether you did things slightly differently.
1. Turn on Ortho to make sure you draw it square.
2. Start drawing the rectangle from almost at the centreline of the roof,
3. Extend well outside the roof edge,
4. Stretch the width of the gable and back to opposite the start point.
5. Right click and select finish, so that the program completes the final edge. This ensures a perfect join and even if this edge is not totally square it will not matter, as this edge is cut automatically to form the join with the main roof.
6. Change the front edge to Gable and drag this edge in as close as possible to the roof support line.
The underlined, bolded text are probably the key moves.
