For some reason my master catalogue has given up the ghost. For some reason it has decided not to open. Other saved catalogues will open but not my main one. Nothing has changed, one day it opened the next day it would not open. Any suggestions as to possible reasons.
Bob.
Hi Bob,
Usually this only happens if the computer has accidentally shut down, or program has crashed in odd circumstances. From what you said it does not appear that this is what happened.
There is no way to repair a corrupt catalogue it that I am aware of. This is why there are frequent recommendations to make a backup copy of the Catalogue. You could try renaming the corrupt catalogue and try to open in again but I suspect that will make no difference.
Hopefully you have not done a lot of customising. All is not lost in that you can restore items you have added or customised previously, if you have used them in previous projects. Open the previous project, then go to File / Catalogue / Save element to catalogue. You can then select your previously used elements and they will be added to the replacement catalogue. May take a bit of time going through previous projects, but may be quicker than making or customising the items again.

Hi there,
Just an idea: try to get your computer back in time using a restore point. Depending of the problem, this may (or not) get your catalogue back
Pat
Allan & Pat, thanks for the reply. I just remembered that I used this catalogue when I down loaded a trial version of Pro Architect which I have now removed from my computer. I wonder if this may be the problem.
Bob
Try to find a restore point previous to the program removal and set the computer to that day
you should get the program again, therefore you'll get the catalog too

Hi Bob,
I have newer version of Cadsoft product running and older v16 of TFPlan and it hasn't affected my catalog.
Do you get any error notice? Is the catalog actually in the path that is define in Program Settings / General / File Paths?
One thing that may work is to try to download the master catalog from the Cadsoft website. It is for 7.2 of Envisioneer, v7.0 is equal to TFPlan v16 (no newer version was released)
http://www.cadsoft.com/reference.php#catalogs (http://www.cadsoft.com/reference.php#catalogs)
I would check the file path and then go to that location on your computer and see if the catalog is there first.
I have no idea what would happen if you tried to open 7.2 catalog.
Of course , customization would be lost.
Jack
Thanks Jack for the reply. I think the problem is related to the removal of Pro Architect which I was trialing. I used my catalogue during the trial period and when it was removed I think the catalogue file was corrupted, but maybe not. However, the good news, I had a backup copy of the catalogue on an external hard drive which I was able to reinstall and it works, not quite up to date by almost. A very important lesson, always back up your files.
Regards Bob.
Hi Bob,
Maybe you already know, but using the TFPlan catalog in the new program caused it to be over written and TFPlan being 'older' couldn't open it.
If you had first saved the catalog with a new name and opened it in the new program, the original would have been retained.
Good to hear you did have a backup.
Jack
Jack, you are correct, it is important to first save the catalogue with a new name before opening it with a new program. Your advice may save others a lot of trauma.
Hi Allan
I have just been reading though the posts, and came across this one..
I downloaded a trial of TFP V16, but could not see much change so stayed with my V12 as I was comfortable with it. I also downloaded a trial of Autocad, but booted that straight away.. Could they have caused my problems.....
Should I just delete/reinstall the TFP again
cheers
Adrian

I can't speak for AutoCAD (but I do know why you ditched it ;) ) but there should not be any issue with installing V16. I have several versions installed without any issues.
However this post is referring to a catalogue problem. Have you been having trouble opening the Catalogue?
Allan
TFP 16 trial should not have affected your previously installed version unless you tried using the catalog from one with the other and mixed catalog files....if you only used each catalog with its own program then all should be OK.
But if still having issues, no harm in re-installing TFP...tho you will lose all catalog changes so be sure to have all old .bld files to re-load any special objects, or save any special catalog items in a separate place before you re-install TFP which will reset everything to default.
And don't forget to also re-install any program updates.

Actually it is perfectly Ok to connect the later program with the earlier catalogue - it will convert then open it, so V16 will open and use the V12 catalogue. I am still using a V12 catalogue - I just keep connecting it to the later programs as they come along and I connect the same catalogue to Envisioneer also. The opposite will not work - you would not be able to open a newer catalogue in an older program - i.e. V12 will not open V16.
You can also connect one catalogue to two or more programs on the one computer. I have my original V12 catalogue permanently conected to V14, V15, V16 and Env 7 and 8 but of course you can only use one at once.
If you decide to reinstall TFP, it will replace your catalogue as Doug said, so the best thing to do, if you have customised things, is to save the catalogue somewhere else, with a distinct name and connect to it after the reinstallation. You need to do the same thing with the Textures folder or you will lose any custom textures.
However, was the catalogue actually your problem?
