I am looking for a chain link fence detail that I can use in a drawing. Anyone by chance have something.

Hi Greg,
I have a straight chain I made some time ago. If nobody comes up with one I can curve this one for you. What length do you want between posts, how big do you want the links and how much 'droop'? For example if the posts were 2000mm apart then a droop of 500mm (a quarter of the length).
It would have to be inserted manually of course, span by span but that is easy to do if the Terrain is flat.

Between posts it is 10' and with the chain link it is stretched so zero sag between posts.
I found a nice one but it is in rvt format.

Coincidence, but I just went hunting yesterday for the same thing. I found Allan's example but it's a different style than the usual "chicken" wire fence around here. Just in case you're looking for the same thing, here's my solution.
Found a texture on the AutoDesk forums and added it to a cement fence. Added the texture to "Rails", changed "Boards" and "Fence Face" to null (found that on here somewhere, basically a magenta texture to make things invisible).

Abhann has raised a question here. I assume you meant a single chain that sags between two posts, such as sometimes used around a car yard or as a temporary way of closing a drive etc. Is that what you meant or a chain mesh fence?

I was looking for what Abhann found a showed. For what reason I am not sure but around this area they call it a chain link fence. I will see if I can get what Abhann did to work out. So where would I find the instructions to bring that into TFP and create a fence. I also found a skp file but when I brought it in it apeared to be a solid mesh.

Tried turning my fence into a BIM file for you.
After importing it should show up under concrete fences and you can go into the properties to change things. Under the Basic tab you'll want to change your post spacing, and you could scroll down a bit and change the "f - Top Rail Height" for the height of the mesh. Under the Appearance tab click "Rails" then "Mapping" to change the size of the mesh itself.
You'll also have a new "Null" material in the Misc group that you can use for other stuff.

Thanks, I can get it in and adjust the posts to the 8' heights but can not get the mesh to do the same with a decent look. If I switch the mapping to 10' it distorts the look.

Hi Greg,
I have not tried this but you should not have to change the Mapping of the image if the size of the mesh is what you want - it will fill the extra space by replicating itself. Only if the mesh is too small would you enlarge it slightly. On Abhann's last image it appears as 2' square. If you made it 4' x 4' the mesh would be twice the size. Obviously if it is too big then make it smaller in both directions. To keep the mesh looking the right shape, you must increase width and height by the same proportion.

Sorry, I haven't figured out how to make clear instructions yet, at least not without being long-winded. If Allan's note hasn't helped try this:
1. Place the fence on your project the same way you would any fence.
2. Right-click and open "Properties. . . "
3. Will be in "Basic" tab
- change "a - Fence Height" to 8'
- change "Max post spacing" to '10 (your earlier post said posts were 10' apart)
- change "b - Post Width" to something bigger, I don't think a 2" pole would hold up 8 x 10 feet of fence well ;D
- scroll down a bit and change "d - Rail Width" to 8'
- change "f - Top Rail Height" to 8'
- change g & h to zero
If you try it on a short section of fence you will be able to see what all of the changes are doing. I thought the mesh looked a bit large, if you want to change that then click on appearance, then rails, then mapping - but as Allan said only change it slightly. Also under appearance you might want to change the post colour from white paint.
