I am trying to convert an outside walkway to a foyer in a Turbocad Home & Landscape 16 drawing. When I add the walls, the program will not allow me to put a door in the wall where I need it. It will allow me to put in a window or an opening, but not a door, and it will allow a door in the other 2 walls I added, but not the wall where I need it. Any suggestions?? Is there a way to force a door into an opening?? (Could this be an elevation problem?)
And while I'm at it, I was trying to modify a wood door with a sidelight so that the sidelight has only one pane. The program will not let me change the number of panes (either horizontal or vertical) from 2 to 1. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

Normally the inserting of a door or window is not possible only if there is something in the way to prevent it and if there is it would usually stop both windows and doors. Are you sure there is nothing else in the way?
It is hard to diagnose without seeing the actual model. Could you post a copy of the BLD file here or email it to me to have a look at for you? My email is alches AT iinet DOT net DOT au.
I am not aware of any bugs with doors or sidelights either. Which door are you trying to add them to?

Hi Allan. Thanks for all your help with this model. I will email the BLD file. The door I was trying to modify was under Entry Doors, 36" Solid wood door with sidelight. It wont even let me tab into the areas where the number of vertical or horizontal panes is (they are both 2.)

Hi Kris,
The problem with the door not inserting is because doors always insert at elevation zero for the chosen location. Your whole wall is elevated a foot or more, so it has no wall to insert into at an elevation height of zero.
I will reply to your email soon (bit busy at present) with regard to the roof overhang as this is a little more complex to expain so I will cover that in the email.
I did not have any problem adjusting the door with sidelight. Have you tried clicking into the pane options - sometimes tabbing into them does not work.

Hi Allan. I was finally able to insert my door by moving some of the other walls (below the level I wanted the door) putting in the new wall and door, adjusting the heights and then moving my other walls back. Regarding the sidelights, I have determined that if you change the sidelight from left to right it will not allow you to adjust the number of panes. You have to do it with a left sidelight, THEN switch the orientation! I'll look forward to some hints for getting my rather complicated roofline to work correctly, whenever you have some time.

Suggest you start a new thread/post to describe the 'complicated roof line' and problems/questions....easier to follow one issue at a time.
Also suggest you include a picture as well as description of the problem...if even a sketch or partial .bld file.

Sorry about the delay - I must admit I had forgotten your roof issue.
Basically what you need to do is select the main roof, right click and select Cut Opening. Now you can 'cut out' the piece of roof that you do not want. WARNING : SAVE FIRST (with a new name) while you practice with this. Do it once - not right then Undo and do it again etc until you get it how you want it.
Basically the cut should follow the shape of the intersecting foyer roof but make sure your 'cut line' extends outside the main roof area. What complicates your particular one is that 'Cut Opening' only cuts the main roof NOT THE OVERHANG. The cut of the overhang will be at right angles to the roof edge so this may still bne see inside. You may may be able to get around this problem by reducing the overhang to just a mm or fraction of an inch and then drag the roof edge out to where the original overhang finished. Do this by right clicking and select Move Edge - Adjust Support Height, otherwise it will change your roof ridge line and height. With a virtual zero overhang the Cut Opening will cut the whole section out at the angle required.
I hope that all makes sense - ask for clarification if not.
