I would like to create a series of trenches to show the excavator where the waste lines will run under a slab-on-grade foundation. I suppose I could insert a strip footing of the right dimensions and elevation as a place holder but that would throw off the amounts shown in the project estimator.
Any thoughts?

You can use the line tools in the program to add dashed lines designating the trench locations and dimension them. That would be the proper way to define them in 2D plan view.
If you want to see them in 3D (which will not show dimensions), using the floor by pickpoints allows you to cut an opening (remove opening) in right click options. You could set this floor below existing basement floor on a new location, set it's color to ground or gravel and then cut the openings. You could also add the plumbing lines (pipe) using the line tool and convert to members option to make lines appear round like plumbing.

Thanks. I basically just used the line tool to create the pipe diagram, then converted everything to a pipe member that I had added to the member list and then lowered everything by 4' below the slab. This should work fine for the planning process and the plumbers/excavators will know what to do with it in the Real World.
