I am unable to duplicate windows and doors to an existing location in drawing. The option is not available when I right-click. I have done this before in the same drawing. I am now able to only duplicate walls. I even tried a new drawing and the option for duplicating windows and doors to location is not available. I am using TurboFLOORPLAN 3D PRO 16.
Are there some global settings or some recent update that has caused this problem? I know it can be done because I did it a week ago.

Hi Elie,
You can only duplicate a window or door onto the same wall. Select the window, right click, select Duplicate and drag the duplicated window to the new position on the same wall. The option certainly should be there. Are you able to select the window or door or did you maybe accidently turn off selection of doors and windows in the View Filter?
I can't think of anything else that would disable the functionality - there is no master control and there have not been ANY updates ever to V16.
If you have modified a window and want to reuse the same one, especially if you want it on a different wall, you can go to File / Catalogue and choose the option at the bottom to 'save element to catalogue'. With this option the elements you select will become part of your catalogue. You can edit the newly saved window in the catalogue to give it a new name and then insert it on other walls.

I am able to select windows and doors and duplicate on the same wall. My problem is that I am not able to "duplicate to location" any windows or doors. I seem to be able to "duplicate to location walls and everything else. Duplicating to location windows and doors option should be available and it is logical.. It sounds like this option was available in previous versions of the program. I am beginning to wonder about the usefulness of this program. I feel that the money I spent purchasing this program has been a waste. In fact I wasted a lot of time trying to make up for the lacking basic capabilities of the program. Maybe it is time for me to move on to a different product.
Do you know if I can get a refund for the program?

Hi Elie,
Windows and doors will duplicate to another location but only as part of the wall. You cannot just duplicate a window or door by themselves as there would be nothing to hold them. If you Duplicate the walls and the windows etc (drag the mouse over them), then they will duplicate with the wall, exactly as they did in all previous versions of the program.
I have tried nearly every 3D architectural program around and have yet to find one more capable than TFP other than spending thousands of dollars for something like Revit ($4,500 per year! last time I looked) and even that did not have automatic roofs like TFP does.
What are the limitations that you refer to?

I am selecting the whole wall with windows and doors, but it will only duplicate to location the walls.. I even tried a new drawing starting from scratch, a simple house with a couple of windows and still run into the same problem. Any kind of help would be appreciated.

I have tried it repeatedly (with TurboFloorPlan Home and Landscape Pro V16.0.C1.901) and it works every time (see image). Is this the version you are using? Can you post a screen image of the part of the plan you are trying to duplicate? (just in case I can see something that is interfering with it - although I can't think of anything that would). If necessary you could post the BLD file so I can have a look at it for you or email it to me if you prefer or if the file is too large to post on the forum. (alches AT iinet DOT net DOT au)

I was bale to find what my problem was that I put in a 4" interior wall intersecting a 6" exterior wall and found the duplicate to location behavior changes with the location of the end point of the interior wall. In some case the openings were duplicated and not the windows in other cases the windows were duplicated to the new location and deleted from the original (I clicked to not delete original). What may have caused this behavior is also that the original and the destination locations had about the same floor heights which is my fault as I was trying to keep addition separate from original building so that I can make separate prints for permit purposes. The reason I wanted to duplicate existing building location is so I can have a print of entire floor plan. Fortunately, I finally figured out a way to have a print of entire building (existing and addition) by setting the dimming option to zero and changing the view filter to display only the items that are of the location I want to combine in the print. This way I was able to bypass the duplicate to location. This approach worked nicely in my situation and I hope to remember it in the future, I do not do drawings on regular basis, I am just a home owner trying to DIY as much as possible.
The program duplicated nicely to a new floor in this same drawing. This program is so automatic that it saves a lot of time most of the time, it is just in the rare situations when one needs to customize it may become a little time consuming since subtle changes can affect the behavior of the program in a big way. Overall, I am satisfied with the program. You are correct about getting the bang for the buck with this program. T H E P R O G R A M W O R K S G R E A T !

Hi Elie,
Yes I can see why you had the problem, walls etc duplicated to where other walls already exist or are really close, would cause some walls to merge and windows or doors to be cut through adjacent walls or be dropped altogether. The program is designed to help you to build things correctly, so will prevent some things happening (if there is not enough room for something to fit for example). If it won't do something there is invariably a reason, although it is not always obvious.
I gather you now understand the use of the View Filter so you don't have the problem anymore.
