I just got TurboFloorplan home & landscape pro v12 for a basement project to start with. It would seem someting so common but I can't seem to find a way to do it. I started 2 projects for different versions of the basement to see which would be nicer and have different bathrooms in each. Now I have designed a kitchen in one project and want to copy all the cabinets & appliances & related elements into my other project. I can open both projects at the same time and I can switch between them with the window menu, so I would have expected a simple copy and paste item on the menu, to copy from one to the other but they are not there. I even thought of creating a custom catalog and saving my whole kitchen to the catalog, but it only seems to want to save a single element.
So I can't seem to find a way to do a simple copy and paste of multiple elements from one project to another. I am sure I am missing something obvious since I just started using it, so if anyone knows how this is done, I would appreciate the help.
Thanks,
John V.
First of all Happy New 2008, what I can see there is now way to do that whit copy and past between to project, sorry. Maybe something to "things to have", request.

I agree a copy/paste seems not possible
But there are a couple other ways instead of the manual mode of placing items....but there are "issues"
- you could group, hide everything else, export as 3ds and then import into other "project"....but you may lose all textures and ability to move or modify individual parts....probably not a good solution except as a "check" for fit/clearances
- Often I'll duplicate the .bld file and use it as the basis for the next version of the project to reduce duplication effort....delete the unwanted stuff and insert new idea stuff....its a trade-off of work in each project....but for future....I always save a .bld file version with just the walls etc as the "baseline" and then do mods for versions a,b,c,d, etc to save as much re-draw time as possible. I usually save progress files too...just in case I want to go back and try something new/different and not ever have to start over.
- Have not tried, but maybe you can group some stuff before you try to save it into catalog....but I suspect it may not work in the case of things that are parametric such as cabinets and doors.
Is it not possible to export as dwg or dxf? Surely you can keep textures etc then.
Thank you for your replies and help. It is unfortunate there is no simple copy/paste, a definite feature request.
I tried the export and it sort of worked after a lot of trial and error. I could not find a way to "group", but I deleted everything else in the design and did the export but then it still exported the terrain. After turning the visibility to off on the terrain and deleting everything else and exporting to 3ds I was able to import it with the object wizard into the new project but only with a scale of milimeters even though I created it in feet-inches. It came in as one big thing, no parameters, but the textures and shapes were all as in the original. So as Doug said, ok for clearance check, but not for continuing edits in the new project.
There are two ways to do this that work but not both have problems. As Mike said you can export as a DXF file and import it as a new object and this works fine except that it is now one object and has only one texture for each element of the original. In the first image the cabinets can only be set to one texture. The other thing is that it is one object - in the image the red * indicates the objects that are the DXF file. For some odd reason the baseboard took on the texture of the sofa. You have to reset the textures from just base colours.
The second option, mentioned by Doug seems to work better - exporting as a 3DS and importing as an object. All parts are imported and all colours/textures as in the original but of course it is just one object - you can't edit anything except the total size and textures. The textures are just numbered nothing to indicate what element they refer to. This option is viable but any editing has to be done in the original model and be imported again. It does however seem to have an annoying problem when rendered and this will require more testing to verify. The problem is that all textures (40+) in the imported 3DS object became highly reflective. See the second image. The imported walls (2) has been reset by changing it with the paintbrush to be the same as the other wall but it was reflective also at first. It would be quite a major job to change all the textures, especially when they are just numbers. The paintbrush is quicker.
So neither option is perfect but both work. When I get some time I will experiment to try to see why the textures all become reflective when imported.

Allan,
Thanks for your investigation into the textures. When I tried it again and looked at the result more carefully, I see other issues also with the textures, the tile size size seems to get imported incorrectly for the countertop and cabinet doors. See the original and the 3ds imported version of the renderings. There may be a way to fix it by going into the parameters and changing the tile size, but there are 62 imported materials as mat1 ... mat62 as you found and it is not worth the time. So I am abandoning 3ds import/export and just re-drawing items, unfortunately.

John.
Yes, I agree, not very practical.
Doug has suggested a copy/paste between projects for a later version so hopefully it may come in the future.
