I want to show a section in one room that will have built in cabinets on one wall. When I use the section tool it shows a full cut across the entire house instead of just the one area withing the arrows. Is this possible?
Secondly, in the section it is just lines and really does not show the detail I am looking for or dimensions .... is this possible?
And finally, I have one area in the bath that is 6' wide between too walls. There a vanity and sink in the space. I want to create an arched header about that area with 3 recessed lights. I tried adding a wall and elevating to the correct height then putting an arch in it. However, that managed to punch a hole through the wall behind it as well. Is this possible?

Hi Rex,
As you have found the Section tool does cut across the whole building, so it is not possible to just take out section out (such as you cabinet and wall surrounding it). If you were using the parent program Envisioneer (or ProArchitect), for example, it still works the same way but you are able to exclude or delete surrounding unwanted area when placing the Section onto the plan layout sheets.
There are a couple of way you can get around this in TFP. First turn off things like the Roof and Floor if you do not want to show them, then select the things you want to appear in your Section, right click Duplicate and then drag them outside the plan area. If necessary shorten any walls that extend beyond the immediate area you want to show. You can now do a Section view on this piece only and export that as a DXF for Dimensioning (will come to that later). If you want to keep this for future use and don't want it cluttering your plan, then create a new Location for Sections, select all the objects and right click Duplicate to Locations, and move it to the new Location. You can then hide that whole Location in the View Filter.

If you are just doing a section showing a cabinet and surrounding wall then the only details would be the doors/shelves/handles etc of the cabinet - do you not get that detail? You could also switch the screen to Rendered View or Outline View - this will show the textures while Outline View will show the lines also and is good for conveying your ideas to someone else.
It is not possible to add vertical Dimensions unless you export the Section or Elevation as a DXF (File / Export / 2D Drawing), save it to your computer and import it again preferably into a new blank project. Doing this you can arrange the Sections, Elevations etc on one 'sheet of paper' and add Dimensions and other lines and text as required. A 3D rendered image, with dimensions and elevations as in the first two images below, can convey the ideas to someone else quite accurately and effectively. These were all done in TFP.

Normally there would be more text and dimensions etc but it gives the idea what can be done with Elevations and Sections without resorting to other software.

To do this try using the Arched Niche rather than just an Arch. It has a back in it, so should not cut through the adjacent wall. Mind you I have not tried this but it should work. You should be able to add the Niche to the existing arch you are using by activating the Specify Niche Depth and setting the depth of the niche in distance or percentage.
