Title: Need some help deciding. PLEASE!!!!
Post by: pastorlee on December 30, 2013, 11:31:01 AM
I have downloaded the Deluxe V17 and the Pro V17. So far between the two, if I had to choose, I would go with the Pro of course. But I am on a budget.
So I want to know if anyone has Personal Architect out there. I talked to them. but there is no trial for that. They told me that Pro Architect is the same thing, but the Personal does not have all the features. I looked at the chart and I understand that.
The Personal Architect V4 now out is between the Deluxe V17 and the Pro V17.

I was just wondering if anyone uses the Personal Architect and what they think of it.

Thank you for the time and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personal Architect V2 is the SAME as TFP V16 Pro so if you have used TFP V16 Pro then you know exactly what it is like. Personal Architect V3 is what TFP V17 Pro would have been if IMSI had continued to use the Cadsoft program instead of moving over to Punch. Personal Architect V4, the current one, is what TFP V18 Pro would have been, so it is now two version ahead of TFP V16 Pro. Everything is still the same as TFP but with new and improved functionality. Everything is still compatible with TFP and any version of TFP from V12 to V16 can still be opened and edited in Personal Architect. The latest TFP V17 is NOT compatible in any way.

Pro Architect, (not to be confused with Personal Architect), is also fully compatible and the plan drawing and 3D functionality and rendering is identical but it is considerably more expensive (about 8 times the price). This is because it contains full architectural drawing tools to produce professional architectural plans. Apart from that additional functionality, it is the same as Personal Architect and TFP V16 Pro.

If you have existing TFP files, already know how the program works and want to continue working the same way and are on a budget, then Personal Architect is the way to go especially as it is currently on special. If you don't want to use any of your previous plans, don't mind learning a new program and don't mind paying $20 more, the you could convert to TFP V17.

I hope that helps in some way.

So are you saying to spend the extra and get the ProV17 TFP?

Not at all. What I am saying is just that Personal Architect happens to be on special right now and the program is compatible with your existing work which may be a big advantage to you. It is the original TFP with a different name and new features.

Both programs are quite capable in their own right and it may only be by trying them out that you can decide.  Personal Architect may not have a trial version at the moment, but you have already used TFP  so you know how it works and what the end results are like, so you don't need a trial - it is just two or more versions later than what you have, so has some new and improved features.

no doubt in my mind, TFPv17 is considerably less capable than Personal Architect v4

the price is better, you have experience with TFP (before TFP17), it is an easy decision; buy PA v4.

Or stay with TFP you already have unless the new v4 features appeal to you...they did to me.

The only experience I have with TFP before 17 was actually just FP. It was V8, and it still runs other than the fact I cant get the text to show up. From what I saw on versions before 17 though and PA, FP V8 is just like those.

P.S. Speaking of FP V8. Does anyone know why the text wouldn't being showing up? It just shows up like squares. Like it would if you were typing in GDT Font or something.

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TFP 12-16 and PA 1-4 are very similar to FP 1-11. They  certainly look the same but there is much more flexibility than the FP series.

The only reason I can think of as to why the text is not showing is that it is set to a font that is not installed on you PC. If you can find what the font is you may be able to change it or, if not, you should be able to get a copy from the internet and it should then work.
