I cannot see my projects in 3D. When I click on the "split screen" icon, all I have is my 2D project showing twice.
IMSI tells me it is a compatibility issue with my video card. I have a ATI Radeon HD 4550, on a PC with Windows 7. What video cards do you guys use? Thanks!
This is really odd.
What happens if you choose full 3D? Did you try clear view?
Can you provide the specs of your computer, including the full specs of your video card?
Try to make a full maintenance of your computer, update all the drivers, but specially the video card drivers, and let us know about the results
BTW, my video card is AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series - 2048 Mb

:) Thanks, Patricia! I updated the driver for my video card, restarted the software, and now I can see the sample plans in 3D (I could not see anything in 3D! Just have to make it work for my projects as well! ;)
Hi SKD,
You're welcome! :D
Glad to know that all is working normally
Patricia
Hello,
My situation is a little different. What doesn't make sense to me is that I can see the 3D graphic fine when I have the mouse left-clicked, but not when I let go of the mouse. It would seem to me that the graphics are working fine and that this is a program glitch. What are your thoughts on this?
I have Windows 7 (32 bit. OS) with 4GB of RAM. Within my Laptop's Device Manager, I have only one entry under the Display Adapters: Intel GM965 (which is apparently not a stand alone video card, but a built-in onboard video adapter) - The Driver version is 8.15.10.1867. When I ran the Update Driver option it said that this was the most up to date version.
My Display settings are 32 bit, 1280 x 800 with a 60 Hertz refresh rate. I've also tried it at the 50 Hertz refresh rate, but that didn't work either.

Kate,
Rest assured that this is not a glitch: I saw this problem lots of times before and it is related with the video card.
As a general rule, try these resources, that are recommended in all the situations
1 - Check the website of your video card manufacturer and update the drivers
2 - Go to the video setup on your PC (may be different for different versions of Windows and video card); for most, click on an empty part of the windows Desktop, click on Settings->Advanced->Troubleshoot). Back the accelerations slider to the left, one level each time and see if the problem disappears. For Windows 7 --> Right Click on your desktop. --> Personalize --> display --> Change Display settings--> Advanced
3 - Right click on the wallpaper (look for a place without icons)--> Properties--> Settings--> Advanced--> Open GL--> Compatibility Settings--> Force 16 bits--> Apply--> OK
4 - Set your video color depth at 24 or 32 bits ("true color") or to 16 bits
5 - Go to www.microsoft.com/directx, and see what version is current and check if you have this version installed in your computer
Now, if you the accelerations controls are not available, this means that you don't have a dedicated memory for video. In this case, go to the control panel of your video chip / adapter --> performance --> move the control and set down the performance. This may help.
An additional note: Onboard video cards and chipsets (almost all of them) have low performance for 3D / rendering purposes because they don't have dedicated memory
Patricia
OK, let me go down the checklist:
1 - Check the website of your video card manufacturer and update the drivers
I ran the driver update (intel) and was advised that my drivers are already up to date.
2 - Go to the video setup on your PC, For Windows 7 --> Right Click on your desktop. --> Personalize --> display --> Change Display settings--> Advanced. Back the accelerations slider to the left, one level each time and see if the problem disappears.
I do not have Dedicated Video Memory, but I do have 358 MB of Available Graphics Memory which breaks down to 64 MB of System Video Memory and 294 MB or Shared System Memory.
Now, if you the accelerations controls are not available, this means that you don't have a dedicated memory for video. In this case, go to the control panel of your video chip / adapter --> performance --> move the control and set down the performance. This may help.
I'm not sure what you mean by set down the performance. I have options for Color Quality, Screen Resolution, Refresh Rate, Aspect Ratio, Power Settings. In Device Manager, I can view the Driver and look at resource settings.
3 - Right click on the wallpaper (look for a place without icons)--> Properties--> Settings--> Advanced--> Open GL--> Compatibility Settings--> Force 16 bits--> Apply--> OK
Please provide Windows 7 steps. There is no Properties option when I right click. I also have no wallpaper on my desktop. I normally go through control panel for things if that helps. I assume this will force applications which are not working with the 32 bit color, to drop down to 16 bit?
4 - Set your video color depth at 24 or 32 bits ("true color") or to 16 bits
It is already set to 32 Bit True Color. The 3D seems to work with 16 bit color, although I'm not sure why reducing the color fixed the issue.
5 - Go to www.microsoft.com/directx, and see what version is current and check if you have this version installed in your computer.
This is no longer an active link at the Microsoft page. But, after searching on Open GL, I found a DirectX Troubleshooter and found that I already have the current version of DirectX installed.
Your videochip is not for 3D purposes (not even close), so, in order to use the program, you need to adapt the situation. This is why I recommended the 16 bit color.
Glad to know that the issue is fixed now ;)
Patricia
The only issue I'm seeing now is that when in 3D, if I try to apply the material to the trim, it instead applies it two walls behind that one (in a completely different room). My version is definitely not working like in the instructional videos.
When I'm in overhead 3D view and I try to update carpet in a bedroom, the grass on the landscape turns blue (carpet), so its as if it is applying to objects behind/underneath the one I'm trying to work with.
There are 3 symptoms related with video card issues
1 - Black screen
2 - Rendering only with mouse clicked
3 - Textures going to the wrong places
You already experienced 2 of them and the only solution is to reduce accelerations. Regarding this problem, all the 3D programs / versions work in the same way. Allan and others can confirm that TFP V16 also solves lots of problems by reducing the vc accelerations.
If you don't find the controls of your vc, try to contact the manufacturer of your vc and ask how to perform this task.

Hello,
I am now using this on a different computer, with a wonderful video card, 1024MB of Dedicated Video Memory and am no longer experiencing any of those issues. Thanks for your help.

You're welcome ;)
