It is unclear from the tutorials and manual what the correct sequence of creating a plan is and as a new user need some direction which way to go.
Working with Turbo Floor Plan pro 17. The project is to model an existing home on a steep lot and then create different renovation and landscaping plans. The home is partway up the slope.
1. Do you create the house first and then fit in the contours after or the other way around?
2. Do you set the working elevation at the lowest point of the lot or does that refer to the lowest point of the home?

Hi there,
This will depend of several elements, but as general rule, I'd say that there is not a right or wrong sequence in TFP V17. You can start by developing the roof if you wish! ;D
There are different approaches:
1 - Your goals are a very important starting point => if you wish to use the sw to create the landscape, for example, you can just develop the house exterior + the roof + the property lines and start with the landscape. But if your goal is the interior design, create the interior walls, floors, stairs, etc
2 - If you are using the program to develop an addition, I'd suggest to develop the original house, and check your options with the building dept, building code, etc. save the original file for future reference.
As a general rule, there are two options
1 - You can set the slope or other topo elements first. In this case, you can set the floor of the basement will be at elevation 0.00 and go up with the topography
2 - You can create a sunken first floor (basement), In this case, the elevation of the floor of the basement will be negative (-96", for example)=> create the topo accordingly

Thanks, have purchased the manual and will see how it goes and if I can make sense of it. I wish it had been clear from the beginning from IMSI what resources were available as I am evaluating the use of this program for teaching and am doing my own project as a way of learning it. I wasted a lot of time going through the IMSI videos (poor video quality) and searching through the users manual to figure it out!
