Title: trouble with Auto-cut terain around building
Post by: hrholden on May 25, 2014, 09:12:40 PM
Helo ,

I am trying to do an auto-cut around a building, it is a mid to late 1960's rectangle with a gable roof and double garage under, cut into the steep block, a skillion veranda was added in the early 70's and a  single bedroom with ensuite in the early 80's. see attached sketch.

I have tried a few things and read the help section, all goes well while i am in the garage layer, and draw the garage, I set the settings to garage with auto cut ticked, then terrain , slope,s select slope put it in , view, GREAT all looks good, all goes well the garage is cut around.
when I add the next level and view, the cut out is applied to the next level ie living area level, obviouly I am doing something wrong, 2 hours of trial and still the same issue.

ANY SUGGESTIONS????

the house has 3 floor levels

Garage (under house cut into hill) 2100 high cieling

house and enclosed verandah floors, same level
House has a gable roof, bearers and joist floor, bearers 100 mm, floor joists 100 mm, 20 mm flooring
verandah has a skillion roof pitched off the wall top plate , concrete floor

back bedroom/office
Concrete floor level 600 mm above enclose verandah/house floor level
ceiling 2400 high with an almost flat roof,

attached are views of my terrain and building  settings maybe this is where my error is

Thanks

Phil

Hi Phil,

Sorry I had to move your question but it was posted in the V17 section of the forum and V17 does not have the function you are referring to , so it obviously related to V16 or earlier.

You are not doing anything wrong. The problem is that the program will only cut the Terrain around ONE location. You need to decide which one and then, if necessary, you can extend the 'cut' area by using the Room Divide tool , which is essentially an invisible wall. The Program will see that as an extension of that floor and cut the Terrain accordingly.
