Hi
I'm trying to sketch out a new house which will share a plot with an existing one storey house. This new house will, from the rear, appear to be one storey but will in fact be half buried so will be two story from the coast view. How do I effectively dig a hole in the terrain to bury it so that when I view in 3D or elevations, I can see how it sits with the existing property?
Thanks!
Sarah
Hi Sarah,
Obviously the ground is sloping, so you need to use the Landscape tools to slope the Terrain. If you use the Slope tool bear in mind that it slopes the WHOLE Terrain. Start the slope from the point in the building that is ground level and slope it up and down from that point (for down use a negative number for the degrees of slope). If it is not a continuous slope over the whole terrain, the use the Plateau tool to build the shape of the Terrain. Use the forum Search for Plateau to find explanations of how to use this tool properly.
You can set whichever Location you want to automatically cut the terrain around the building. If you want to cut a wider area, use the Pad tool - it will cut the Terrain vertically wherever you draw it (tick the box so that it does not slope with the Terrain). To make a depression with sloping sides use the Plateau tool.
