Title: Cathedaral Ceiling and Angled Beams

Hello,
I have a question, I need to have beams to support a 10/12 pitch exposed cathedral ceiling. How do I place a beam at a angle from the outside wall to the top of the ceiling at that angle? Meaning one end of the beam is higher than the other....is this possible?

Hi Randy,

Yes, it is possible with the help of the 3D Custom Workshop Power Tool

Option 1 (with vertical ends): in the Furnishing library => go to Faux Wood Beams and choose a beam => drag and drop it in the plan => double click or right click to open it with the 3DCW (alternatively, you can open the 3DCW and drag and drop the beam in the workspace. In the 3DCW, choose 2D front view. Resize the length of the beam. In the back grid, create an auxiliary rectangle with the desired dimensions (to mark the pitch). In the "beam 1" image, I created a rectangle with 10ft x 12ft to keep the desired 10:12 pitch (pointed in green in the "beam 1" image). Set the selection as "points" (outlined in blue in the "beam 1" image). Select the point of one end of the beam => move the points up (you can use the arrows in your keyboard) until they reach to the upper side of the rectangle (in red in the "beam 1" image). Select the auxiliary rectangle and delete it. Visualize in 3D and texture as desired (see the "beam 2" image). You can Save to the Library or just close and update the object in the plan

Option 2 (with angled ends): in the 3DCW => select 2D Front View => select the beam => Resize the length => Edit => Rotate (or use the Rotate icon in the left tool bar) => write the desired angle (see the "beam 3" image). You can Save to the Library or just close and update the object in the plan

Once you are done with the beam, set it to the desired elevation

Thanks for the such quick reply! Did as you advised...works like a CHARM, very easy to understand you. I was trying 3D Custom Workshop but did not truely understand it. As you say practice, practice and read your ebook. The ebooks I bought are very helpful. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM. THANK YOU AGAIN, YOU ARE VERY HELPFUL!  :)

OK, thanks for the feedback!  :)

As per your request: I am looking at the floor between the lower level (basement?) and the main level (kitchen level) => I think that the slab is missing?

Huh LOL You are right! Something is amiss...a setting must be off in that floor?

Did you set the slabs?
Floor button (outlined in red in the image attached) => Edit Current Floor => the Edit Current Floor menu opens (name outlined in green) => set the parameters, slab, etc (outlined in blue)

Yes, The setting was at 0", and the tool options were set to not show floor! I could not figure out how to set the default floor to wood. So I used floor tool around perimeter of second floor and set it to wood. There must be a option on the default floor, in floor settings to change from concrete to wood?

There are 3 different things

Wood as finishing material for the room => drag and drop the material on the floor
Wood as default finishing material for the program => use Quick Palettes
Wood as a framing material => click on the exterior side of the walls (perimeter) => a yellow band will appear => in the Tool Options bar (right pane) select Slab Framing => the menu will open => select the desired material for the framing (see attached)

A very good work!

I just see a (perhaps) potential issue: check the height of the garage doors, they look embedded in the slab between the 2 floors
Also, for a better information, I'd add the height of each floor in the elevation
