Title: 3D Zoom?
Post by: petee on February 18, 2015, 02:35:11 PM
I've just started my first floor plan, and I'm having trouble with the 3D Walk-Through View. As you can see in the attached screenshot, the door takes up the whole 3D window. How can I zoom out (or have I got some sort of scaling error)?

Regards Petee.

Hi Petee,

In liveview you have different tools:

- Walk-through tool => the little man icon
- Flying around tool => the chopper icon
- The Aerial View tool => the satellite/ earth icon

The little man walks, so the zoom is actually how close or far the little man is from any object. In your case, as you are very close to the door (as you can see in your floorplan), the door covers the entire  live view screen.

You can use use this system to start and see how it works => create a room and go outside => Set the screen as split view (half floorplan / half liveview) => set liveview as Walk-Through (the little man) => in the floorplan view, you will see an arrow symbol => point the arrow with the mouse and move this arrow to position the desired Walk-Through view => also if you rotate the point of the arrow, the Walk-Through point of view will rotate as well
(see attached outlined in red)

Also, try these live view features => if you click the little man icon in the live view screen => using your mouse => hold the left button => go forward / backward / left right. The mouse wheel will look up and down. The right button will change the elevation of the little man.

Hi Patricia,

I'm sorry to be bothering you with these elementary questions, but the manual isn't all that clear.
In the kitchen that I showed you I can select walk-through then, using the mouse with the left button down, move right back to the opposite corner of the room from the door (i.e. as far away from the door as possible while staying in the same room), but the door still takes up half the width and nearly the whole height of the 3D window.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi Peter,

Did you try to move the little man manually, as explained?

Follow this sequence with the images attached, try to reproduce the situation moving the little man manually, in order to visualize how it works

If you place the little man more or less close to the door, say 86" (as in the first image) and you are using split screen (half 2D / half 3D) , they yes, the door will cover all the space. Now, if you move the little man far from the door, the image should change. You can see the entire room in full screen.

Of course, if you have a small kitchen, the little man can't go too far :) . In that case, you can use the 3D cutaway slider to remove the walls and place the little man out of the room

If you are interested, you will find tutorials about 3D visualization in my e-book

Hi Pete,
There is one more thing you can try along with Patricia's great recommendations,
Go to the Navigation and Rendering button in the 3D View Window and slide the Camera angle to wide.
It gives the Camera more viewing area.

See images below.

Let's add a note for users looking at Darren's images: the screens look a little different because Darren uses the Mac version

Patricia/Darren,

Thank you both for your advice. The room is small (about 7' by 14'), and the wide camera angle helps a bit, but not nearly enough.
Patricia - what's the connection between Punch Software and TurboFloorPlan?

Pete.

Hi there,

Open your program => go to Main menu =>Help =>About... => you will see the "who is who" of your program.
Basically, Punch develops different programs for different companies and TFP V17 and TFP 2015 are two of them

Hi Patricia,

Does that mean if I requested a change to make it easier to view small rooms, you might be able to include it in a future upgrade?

Pete.

Hi Pete,

Not sure if I understand.... what type of change would you like to request to make it easier to view small rooms?
I don't know the policy that TFP applies for upgrades, but I imagine that current users get a discount if they upgrade their programs

Hi Patricia,

As you know, Darren suggested that I slide the Camera Angle to Wide. That was an improvement, but I would like to see an increased range of adjustment.

Pete.

Hi Pete,

I see, but I think that you didn't understand one of my suggestions. Did you try the 3D cut-away slider?

Although the camera angle is a great tool, this option provides a better angle using the same parameters. In other words, as you can see in the first image attached, if the little man height is 1.70 m (for example) and he is "against the wall"  :), the image will show a real life angle. In my opinion, more than 95° won't be realistic.
Now, if I understood your first post, you are trying to see a better perspective of your kitchen, with a better angle. This can be achieved increasing the distance, but you have the wall.
Check the second image: Using the 3D cut -away slider, you can cut slices of the house. The commands are outlined in green and I am cutting following the blue arrow. As you can see, the little man is behind the wall, but as I sliced the wall, I got a better perspective

I don't work for Imsi or Punch so, I can't get improvements in the programs. There is a section in the forum to ask for new features http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/board,14.0.html

Hope this helps

Patricia
