I am relatively new to Turbo Floorplan, and am having a problem adding a porch roof. I placed a porch floor and now want to add a roof to the porch. It is a basement, 1st and 2nd floor house. How do I do this?? No matter what I try, I can not do this.
Thanks, Alan
Hi Alan,
Welcome to the Forum!
You did not say speciifically what the problem was with the roof. You should be able to go the level where you want it, select Roof By Picking Points and draw it. If it needs to slope just one way, then click the 3 sides that don't slope (arrow turns green) and click the Roof Style icon and change them to Gable.
If that does not cover what you need then ask again.
Allan
When I select ground floor or second floor, the main house roof shows, however, each time I try to add a porch roof, it will not add or attach to anything, so it does nothing. Very Frustrated. Should I select the ground floor?? or 2nd floor. What do I attach it to?? The porch is nothing more than a deck 1 foot off of the ground with added railings. Even if I extend the porch rails corner posts to 7 feet, I cannot get a roof to attach to the extended corner posts. I presume that I would need the 2D view, and not one of the elevation views to attach the roof??
Any help would be appreciated as to how you have placed a roof over a porch.
Thanks,
Alan
Alan,
You should be able to draw a roof by Picking Points anywhere, with or without attaching to anything else and it will insert it at top of wall height on the location you have selected. In other words, if you select the ground floor and it is set to have 2400mm walls (8ft) then the roof will insert at 2400mm.
If this does not work, create a new location with the same settings as the floor level where you want the roof. This way it will not interact with things on other Locations andwill prove there is not problem with the roof tool.
If this still does not work, check if you have Hardware Acceleration on. If you do try again with it off. It causes all sorts of odd things on different PCs so could be why it is not working for you. (Settings / Program Settings / Graphics).
Let us know how you get on.
Allan
Allan, you are a genius with this program...
I would have never thought a roof would generate without walls.....I sure do learn a lot from your posts.
Thanks for being so helpful!
Doug,
All trial and error I assure you - plus pushing it to its limits. Amazing what you find sometimes! Have you found the 'shapes' yet? I will put that in the tips section when I get time.
Allan
It took me awhile to figure out you can have only one roof per location. Its not an issue however as you can define multiple locations that occupy the same space.

If you mean creating a "profile", then yes I did one once.
But if its something else, please, when you get a chance, let us know or at least point me to a tool or help file topic and I'll play to learn.

Actually if you insert the roof by the 'Pick Points' method you can have many separate ones the same location, but using separate locations is needed for 'unsual' roofs. I have one model with 6 separate roofs all on the one location.

WOW! Now that opens up some possabilities. :o
