Title: Why Does A Door Disappear When I Set Wall Properties?
Post by: Tobermory on February 22, 2015, 02:49:23 PM

I have a section of framed wall in my design with the dimensions 1.16m(W) x 2.72m(H) x 0.1m(D). I inserted a "hinged" type door in this wall. And then increased the size of the door to 1.969m(H) x 0.737m(W).

I would like to change the colour of this wall. However, if I open a "Properties" window for the wall, make changes in the "Appearance" tab and then mouse the [OK] button the door disappears from the design. In fact even if I simply open a "Properties" window for the wall, change nothing and mouse the [OK] button the door still disappears.

Could anyone suggest how I can change the properties of the wall without the door in it disappearing from the design?

I am using TFP3D Home & Landscape Pro v16.

What happens if you change the wall Properties first then insert the door?
Also it would be logical to set the door size first before you insert it, although the sizes of the wall indicate there should be room to increase the door size afterwards (as long as the door is in the centre of the wall). The door will expand both ways if you resize it after insertion,, so if it is near the edge of the wall, it could widen into the edge and dissappear as a result. How wide are the door frames and trim? Are you sure there is enough room? (733mm is presumably the width of just the door leaf - you have to allow for framing, trim etc.

"What happens if you change the wall Properties first then insert the door?"
If I do this then the door is inserted into the wall section. This is how I managed to generate the current state of the model.

The doorframe is 38mm wide and 100mm deep. And the door is centred in the wall section (though thank you for querying this).

I did a little more investigation into the problem. And the origin seemed to have been the percentage (%) that I had specified the door should be swung open in 2D views. I had set this to 70% which, while not taking the door into the adjacent wall, appears to have brought the edge of the open door too close to this wall. So I have reduced this parameter to a value of 55% and I can now change the properties of the wall, which the door is located in, without the door disappearing from the design.

Thank you, Allan, for the most helpful response and suggestions.
