Hi,
I'm using the advanced raytrace rendering of a view. If all elements are made visible then this completes the raytrace but fails to start the radiosity section. If I turn off visibility of ground floors only then everything works OK. Even if I delete all elements for the ground floor but keep ground floors visible then I fail to get a full realsitic render ????
This is most frustrating. Any help much appreciated
Thanks Keith
Hi Keith,
First you model is a really nice looking design and you have obviously put a lot of work into it.
What happens if you Raytrace only (Basic render)? Really this is all you need for exterior renders. Radiosity is used largely to create the bounced lighting that occurs inside, as light for electric lighting and through windows, bounces around and illuminates the walls, ceilings etc.
On first reading your post the immediate thought was that there is some corruption on the ground floor. If you turn that level off and the render works, it is a sure sign of an issue somewhere. Unfortunately I cannot test it out, as the model will not even open in V16 for me - is just crashes, again indicating a corruption somewhere. However I was able to open it in Envisioneer and it rendered fine. Envisioneer is however several versions later than V16 and obviously handles the opening of the file Ok. Rendering is OK too but it uses a totally different rendering engine now and the new engine is obviously is not affected by the corruption. I have posted the rendering for your interest.
Corruptions are most commonly in wall joins. I have looked over your ground floor walls and there are a couple of things that concern me. One is the "splashback" which appears to be a very thin wall placed against another. Theoretically this should not be a problem but is an unusual way to do this. Normally this is done using the Trim tab - Custom and Choose Wainscot to make your splashback.
The other thing of greater concern is some strange lines and wall sections in the chimney area. I have included an image where this section of walls is selected (pale blue) but there is a brown triangular shape that does not select (Left side of second image). When I deleted the centre piece of wall (selected green in the middle image) the brown triangle goes. This leaves a break in the outer wall (not good) so delete the lower section (right side image) and drag the wall end that is left, down to meet the lower corner. To make sure it joins properly, extend the wall beyond the corner and then delete the bit that sticks out. I am not sure what effect this will have, but it does leave a more normal appearance in the plan and MAY be the corruption that is causing your issue. Because my TFP V16 will not open it, I cannot test whether this is the issue and while I can delete it in Envisioneer it doesn't prove anything because it works in Envisioneer anyway. You may want to try re-creating this section like this, in the hope it will solve the problem.
Worth a try - let me know how it goes
