Title: Interior dimensions
Post by: RexLan on January 04, 2016, 02:01:05 PM
I want to use the automatic interior dimension tool.

When I do it measures from the center of the walls.
I want to have the dimension from the inside of the walls so I know the actual distance between them.
I have changed every setting an can get outside to inside, center to center or inside and each wall thickness 93 dimensions).

This should be a pretty simple function ... can it be done?

Hi Rex,

There are two ways to do this:

1.  Use the Linear Dimensions tool instead - The problem with this is that it will still snap to the centre, so you have to position the start of the dimension on the edge of the wall, draw across and then finish on the edge of the opposite wall. That requires magnifying the plan as it is very hard to position it exactly.

2.  The simpler way is what you are probably doing with Auto Interior Dimensions -  Make sure that the two Core settings are chosen as ticked in the image below, then draw the dimension across the rooms and just delete the dimension given for the wall thickness. This is much quicker and automatically snaps to the edges of the walls giving accurate figures. It is a bit of a pain selecting each wall dimension (select the text not the line) but much quicker than doing individual Linear Dimensions.

OK ... that is what I will do and thank you.
