Hello all,
I was under the impression that one could not import a Ver12 drawing into TurboCad(any version) and make working architectual drawings for obtaining a building permit? But after going back through some of the posts here I'm not sure anymore? I've sent Jack Zimmer an email asking about this, but my PC has been giving me trouble lately and I'm not sure he has or hasn't answered; and as busy as he is I don't want to bug him. So, does anyone have Jack Zimmer's Arcitectual Training CD and does he cover this for TurboFloorPlan like he has in the past for other versions of FloorPlan?

I don't have the CD but I decided I'd try what I have...
exported a 1MB TFP12 .bld as .dxf (it became 7MB)
Opened TCAD pro 11.2 and opened the .dxf by dragging the file onto the TCAD blank window....all seems well/OK
I don't use TCAD much but did zoom to extents and a 3D isometric view and all the pieces seem to be there in colors (wire-frame), I did not try a render
So it seems to work just fine and easily done
I have done this before also and the model appears to be editable but like Doug I do not use TurboCAD much. You have to Export the a DXF file (File/Export) and TCAD will open that.

Yes, .... there is no TCAD program that can open a TFP12 .bld file directly (that I know of, perhaps the most recent TCAD ver. can ???) and TFP12 will not open any previous FP ver. x .bmf file
There are some versions of TCAD that will open earlier versions of .bmf files directly...but the are selective like TCAD 10 for FP 9.
In almost all cases, an export .3ds .dwg or .dxf or similar 3D file can be opened in most any other good CAD or 3D program (for example I use Carrara pro 6 and it opens the neutral 3D file formats) where further operations such as dimensioning and notes are easier/better and output to print better than TFP12.
Of course there is an easy route too....save 2D .bmp view of TFP and place it in a vector program (or bitmap) and add dimension lines and notes....but the 2D floorplan will be pixelated if enlarged much....
unless you convert the .bmp to a vector file such as .ai with Illustrator or another pixel to vector converter program...and they are a bit tricky to get good results
