Title: Elements will not move in elevation view
Post by: scase on February 03, 2008, 04:38:17 PM
I am using TFP V12. I have inserted a window in plan view, when I look at the elevation view it is not where I want it. I can select the window, put the cursor on the center, click and get the 4 way arrow and the help hints in the lower left corner says "drag to new position" but it will not drag any direction. I have the same problem with a chimney.

What am I doing wrong?

thanks

Welcome to the Forum!
My first question with any issues like this is- do you have Hardware Acceleration on? (Settings/Program Settings/ Graphics).  If you do try with it off. Many PCs do not like the Hardware Acceleration on - causes all sorts of problems.

Having said that, with windows and some other things (maybe chimney - haven't tried) you cannot move them in 3D view - you must use plan view. To set the height - right click and select elevate.

So maybe you are not doing anything wrong.

If you are in a "true" "elevation view" (2D) I don't believe you can drag objects around despite a 4 way arrow cursor....my lower left corner does not say drag...it says select....and then you can right click and properties and change elevation.

Otherwise you can adjust (as Allan says) in the 2D plan view.  2D elevation views are a special vie w and not a typical 2D floorplan nor 3D view capable of full adjustments....similar to section views.

If you are in a 3D elevation view, you can move things like furniture but I find a window cannot be moved by dragging the 4 way cursor on the objects.  Its much easier to control movements in the 2D view, in my opinion.

So I don't think you are doing anything wrong but found a limited ability of TFP12.

Thank you for your help. I notice that the right click menu also includes a move choice which, of course does not work. This seems like a bug in the software, having menu items available that don't function.
I will have to work around it, thanks again.
