I have previously used TFP3D Home & Landscape Pro v16 for projects ranging from simple room layouts to the modernisation of an entire house and gardens. I had avoided upgrading to v17 as I seem to remember that this has a completely different user interface. But since it is a couple of years since I last used FloorPlan my thoughts are that if I am going to learn a new GUI rather than simply revise my knowledge of the GUI of v16 this is the time to do it.
If I upgrade to v2020 am I going to miss any features from v16?
And is the "FloorPlan Instant Architect 2020" version adequate or should I spend the additional $50 for the "FloorPlan Deluxe 2020"? I do not mind paying the extra if this provides me with features that I am going to use. However, I suspect I am not likely to obtain any benefit from either an online viewer capability or a plant Growth Tool. Perhaps from Window and Door Labels or (the mysteriously named) Interoperability Enhancements?
Is the 'TFP_17_Comparison.pdf' document valid for the 2020 releases? Because the only difference I noted in this that would be relevant to my needs is the absence of HVAC tools. Which if it prevented me putting radiators in my plans would justify purchasing the "FloorPlan Deluxe 2020" version.

As a general rule, I think that old 3D programs don't work well in updated computers. I noticed limitations re: speed as well as rendering issues. Depends of your computer and video card.
TFP Pro V16 was a program with many features, and the new Deluxe and IA are basic programs, so if you compare 2 basic programs with a full program, yes, there will be features missing. Certainly, we can compare TFP Pro V16 with FP Pro 2020 because they are both Pro programs, meaning that both titles are full programs.
Also, you can check the comparison chart, and compare the 3 FP programs and their features (including the HVAC tools that you mentioned)

That comparison chart is particularly helpful.
I use the program for structural design and to investigate ergonomics and practicalities of arrangements of fittings, fixtures and furniture within a room. I do not use the tool to explore the aesthetic details of interior designs, beyond providing illustrations of what will be where and consideration of headspace and the like. So I suspect that the Deluxe version will be sufficient for me.

Yes, if you are not going to use the rendering features, probably the deluxe version will be OK.
