Title: Shower not showing seat?
Post by: digerati on March 26, 2008, 03:36:11 PM
I have a shower that I am working on and I put a small triangle seat in the corner. It shows up on both 2d settings but not in 3d. Any idea why?

The 2D views will show everything from the top down - could it be above the camera in 3D? Check the Location and object elevation settings.

Did you check which Location it is on and what the height settings of that location are?  If they are drastically out it could be very high or low and still not be seen in your horizontal view.

You might try this to "find" your object in the 3D view....

- setup a camera in a 3D view exterior that shows the whole building left-right and top-bottom....with some extra view space all around as well
- go back to 2D floorplan view and select your object (small triangle seat)
- go to your new 3D camera view you just setup and in menu do 'edit/select previous' and look all around to see your triangle position as it could be on a wrong floor or above the roof or below the basement.
- while selected in 3D view you can right click and do "elevate" to adjust the height position up or down

Doug.....You and Allen are top notch. You guys know everything and thats soo good for the rest of us learning.

I dont know why its acting this way. Its set to be 1' 5" for the distance above current location or terrain. ITs 90' above everything.

Thanks again.

I don't know about knowing everthing - I am sure Doug would agree that WE learn a lot from the Forum also!

If you have not already fixed it, I would not mind seeing the file out of curiosity as to why it has ended up where it has.

As a seat in a shower it is not very private is it? !!! You called it a "seat" - maybe the program thought it was a HIGH chair!!

Anyway - I'm glad you found it!

I fixed it, but I enclosed it before it was fixed so that you can check it out.

by defualt its level is set to 0" for elevation I think. I had to set it to -88' 7" to get to look correct.

I'll take a wild guess as to why its located so far off as I did not see any obvious error in your .bld file

I'm assuming your object was a .3ds import.  If so, perhaps when it was constructed in other program it was located far from 0,0,0 in the Z direction and if you had to adjust the import size, the x,y,z space location did not change too, so it went where it thought it should for axes it knew.

I have learned to ensure imported models are close to 0,0,0 in their source program.

If you did not import then the above does not explain and I don't know.

I couldn't see anything obvious either.

I was using the Triangle with Two Surfaces from the custom shapes and its set to 0.0 on the x, y, and z However its height is default at 83'-4"

Interesting - that would explain it!   I have checked mine so I didn't get caught the same way but the default on mine is zero.
