Hi,
I'm having trouble selecting objects some of the time. I know I need to be on the correct layer to select them and most of the time this works fine. However, in the basement I can place objects OK, but then I can't select them later to either delete or move them. Also, in some areas of the landscape I can place plants ok, but not select them later to move or modify them.
There are some objects, such as a kitchen sink, which I don't seem to be able to make "stick" when I try to place them in their correct spot. I can move the outline to the correct place, but it will not stay there when I click.
Some walls have become unselectable and I can't insert doors in them.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Marilyn
Marilyn.
Do you have Hardware Acceleration on? If you do try turning it off as this is a cause of this type of thing on many PCs.(Settings / Program Settings / Graphics )

I have never had a problem selecting items....but if you can't select in 2D, try in 3D, then if needed in 2D, use menu, select last again (or similar words)
For items that won't stay where you want them, turn off "collision detection" see bottom right side of screen; you can tun it back on for other objects
Thanks for the suggestions. Turning off hardware acceleration did not help. Turning off colision detection helped for some items. One persistent problem seems to be that I first inserted "room divisions" instead of walls on the ground floor. I later inserted interior walls and could put doors on them in most places, but not where the room divisions are. I can not select the room divisions to delete them. How does one get rid of the room divisions? The other persistent problem is placing a few specific items, the kitchen sink in particular. It just will not "stick" where I put it. Nearly everything else works fine.
Thanks,
Marilyn
Hi Allan and Doug,
My problems have been solved! The inability to select various items was fixed by chosing "select all" in the view menu. The inability to make the kitchen sink "stick" was solved by first placing a cabinet there, then putting the sink in it. Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi Marilyn,
Good to hear you got it sorted out. Sinks, basins etc will only insert into a cabinet if it is big enough, so you need to make sure of that first also.
Keep Hardware Acceleration in the back of your mind for odd things in future and try it first. Ideally it is best when on as the movements of the model are so much smoother but sometimes it is a real problem. My two PCs will not do a photorealsitic image (View / 3D Real View) with it on - it just crashes so I just turn it off when rendering.
All the best with your project.

Hi Allan,
Another useful discovery was that in order to select objects in the basement (on the foundation level) one must turn off viewing of the terrain. All this may be in the manual, but I did not find it.
Thanks again for this helpful forum!

Hi Marilyn,
I don't understand the selecting issues you are having. I can select anything in the basement whether the terrain is on or off - it makes no difference. It should not work like yours is. It may be something in that particular model that is causing it. When you get a chance, try creating another simple model, just 4 walls on ground level and 4 walls on the basement level and see if you can select things. You have to be on the right location of course. On the Ground Floor you should be able to select those walls and on the Basement you should be able to select the Basement walls.
