I have drawn a bathroom. I want to show a flat, sloped ceiling (vaulted) in just this room. At one end of the room, the wall is 8 feet. at the other end, the parallel wall is about 12 feet high. I have successfully sloped the side walls from one end to the other. When I insert a flat ceiling, it stays horizontal at 8 feet in height, and does not follow the tops of the sloped walls. Anyone know how to make a flat ceiling follow the wall tops?
(note: I also tried putting on a roof first, thinking the ceiling would follow, but couldnt make the roof do this either. There is no selection for a flat roof anyway, so it kept trying to put in all sorts of gables, hips, what have you, and I am working only with a single room, not an entire building.) :-\ Thanks for your suggestions!

Sloping ceiling and roof are the same really. Click the ceiling (or roof) and set the type to Cathedral. You will find you have 4 arrows, three red probably and one green. Click two more arrows so you have 3 green. Right click Properties and select Gable and set the skirt to 0 unless you want it of course. Click the 3 green ones to turn them red and then select the 4th one so it alone turns green (green is the active one). Now you can set the Degrees of the slope you want.
You may want to use the Forum Search as this has been dealt with before with some images to illustrate. Have attached Roof example - ceiling is basically the same just set the slope to what you want (Degrees - Roof is Percent).

Hi this is how I have done it:
You use catedral ceiling and cheate a little see the image:
1: at 12' Wall set Properties:
a - Ceiling Thickness 1/2"
Edge Condition
b - Skirt Width 0"
Edge Shape Straight
c - Slope Angle 90
Sorry to bump this old thread, but it seems like it would go along with it perfectly for future reference.
How do you remove the visible vertical face at the ceiling edge? For instance, let's build a simple, square room. The ceiling has 4 sides of course (N, S, E, W) and you want it to slope from N to S. At the N side it is 9' AFF, at the S side it is 12' AFF. Let's now put a row of 'clerestory'-style windows in the S wall, 3" below the ceiling. So the window head would then be at 11'9" AFF.
From outside the building, through the window, you now see the vertical edge of the ceiling, instead of looking into the room. How do you remove this vertical edge?

However, can you do it with a ceiling instead of making another roof under the actual roof? Using a roof to make a ceiling has a few drawbacks:
1. Many times the ceiling would be lower than the bottom of the roof (eg if you have a slightly different pitch on the ceiling as compared to the roof), so putting the drywall on the underside of the roof wouldn't work in these situations. You would have to create a second roof, under the first, which would....
2. mess up the wall heights when you use "extend to roof" option
3. The ceiling wouldn't turn on/off with "ceilings", but instead with "roofs"

This example is made with surface-tool I think that is so much more easy now use this tool to make your sloping ceiling. only 4 click and then adjust the settings
insert a "custom member", set it to: size (keep it thin and slightly oversize to embed the edges into the walls), angle, elevation, texture and you are all set...it is an independent object.
Alternatively if you know the exact size, create a simple shape in a 3rd party program such as Hexagon, Carrara, Sketchup and import (.3ds), apply texture, position, adjust size if needed. Save to catalog for future uses again.
I think you could make another roof, convert to member; but I have not tried that. Per Allan tips; you could make from a wall and tip it up and put into place but I have not tried that either.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom. All of these methods will definitely work for this.
I especially like the Surfaces tool. I haven't really used this in the past, but it is a really good tool. It works perfectly in this instance, since you can turn it into a floor, ceiling or roof. This way it can be manipulated with the View Manager, and it'll also export as the right layer & color. It can be adjusted however you want, plus it's actually faster than doing a cathedral ceiling & changing all 4 sides & skirts. Wonderful.

The Surfaces tool is certainly very flexible and ideal for unusual situations and conditions, which is obviously why it was created.
Personally though I find making the ordinary ceiling to slope is still much quicker, especially if you use the 2D Designers view of the plan. Click to insert the ceiling and change it to Cathedral. Select it (in 2D Designers view) and you will get the same arrows as with the roof. Select 3 of them and in Properties enter zero in the Skirt Width and change the Edge Shape selector to Gable. Select again, this time just the 4th side and in Properties enter zero in Skirt Width and enter the Slope Angle you want and it is done. Right click to Elevate if necessary.
I suppose it depends what you get used to but obviously both tools have their purposes and work well.
