Title: row of trees
Post by: anon125 on June 21, 2008, 08:54:45 PM
i selected a tree - pencil cedar to use as a hedge.
changed its dimensions to suit.
do i have to duplicate and move or is there an easier way to put a row of 40 trees?
thanks

Rick,

As long as you have the Program Settings/Drawing Aids - Repeat Insertion turned on, you can just keep clicking and insert one after the other (40 Clicks) or you could insert one and duplicate it then duplicate the two (4) then duplicate the 4 to 8, 16 , 32 etc. (a few clicks less but proabably takes longer).

"clicking and insert one after the other"
I thought that only worked when it was "unajusted"
i.e. i just select from the left hand pane and keep clicking.
but as i have adjusted the tree....
maybe i can insert them all then group select and change them at once!
thanks

Allan and Rick
There is a very easy way to do this set one tree, then mark it then right click select array. Now you can do a set rows to 1 and column to 40 and direction to that angle you will have. If you will have a alley you set rows to 2 and column to 40 and correct distance both for rows and columns don't forget direction.

Rick,

From your previous post - anything in the list can be repeatedly inserted.  If it has already been inserted then adjusted, then duplicate or as Robert said use the array option.

Or ensure an "adjusted" object is saved to the catalog....then upon next insert, you can click, click, click to continually insert the adjusted object...especially useful if a regular array is not desired, such as a group of random placed trees (but each tree is the same object)

Another tip...to get some variability in the hedge row....select each tree or bush and rotate it in place, make each tree a different amount of rotation....then you get the uniformity of shape and size and texture but more realistic renders of slight randomness of tree growth and it will look less like plastic repetition.

Doug,

In referring to rotating trees I assume you are thinking of 3DS trees - the photoboard trees in TFP can't be rotated as they are a fixed image. You can get randomness a little by pushing some closer together than others and randomly adjusting the height.

yes, you are correct and thanks for the clarification
