I know it's been a while but never thought the gallery would just up and defect. Progress?
Been buisy on a few external projects which are slowing down now and thought I'd post a little tinkering job. Just a curved sofa but it has been a learninng curve just how just plain 'onnery curved items can be. SKP suit chaps?
Hi Mike,
I did start 3 GALLERY posts in this section for the 3 different types of images but no one else ever added anything so they have slipped down to page two.
I can see you have done a beautiful job with the curved sofa. I do not have Sketch Up but imported into TFP and can see that it is really detailed. Unfortunately, presumably because of all the curved surfaces, it is very big (nearly 48,000 polygons) and maybe for this reason it did not import fully - half of the fabric was missing. I tried to do a radiosity render it in case that would restore the rest of the fabric but it ground to a half and finally stopped responding. Then I tried a Basic render but it did not restore the fabric unfortunately - in fact it removed a bit more of it.
If you were able to render the full model why not post the image in one of the Gallery posts so we can all see it?

Hi Alan, nice to know some of the old gang are still here, I am pretty sure there was a category for gallery submissions but if that has been little used I can see it getting deleted. Shame in a way, it was useful to share models and render tips.
Mike,
They have not been deleted - they're still there but you have to go to page two of this section.

Alan, looked into your comments about losing fabric and it happens in envisioneer pro 4.5 too. Did not even start to render there, might be a problem with file conversion as I went with the dwg which I achieved with TCad as a converter. Doh.
Sketchup version also nil point, will look into this and check envisioneer forum for possible solutions. In a plug-in render program (renditioneer), I get this.
Hi Mike,
That has come out beautifully! I could tell if would come out well when I tried it but whether it is the memory it takes that is the problem or what I do not know. I did not dare post the image ,as it looked as though some mice had started eating the fabric from one end and got about half way!! I am going to give it another try on my laptop - it has a bit more memory so it may do better - if that is the problem.

I will add a gallery section to this website.
Thats great - thanks!
Would it be worthwhile to make an initial locked post with Gallery Instructions? It could possibly include a few thoughts about image size and format and a reminder about using the Looking For Help (rather than it becoming cluttered with queries also).
Thanks again.

Hi Alan,
I think the problem with that file is degeneration. Not sure why it has gone so horribly wrong but my best guess is something to do with how certain programs handle skp files. I could not render this item in TCad either. Strange thing is that the thing is fine in wire mode but as soon as any kind of rendering is added it goes haywire. Nuts huh?
I agree the .skp file as an import to TFP is broke but it looks OK in SU.
Do you have only the free version of SU? (That is what I have) or do you have the pro ver. of SU where you can export a 3D object file such as .3ds or similar? If so, try SU export
Yes the original DXF must be corrupted in some way. I tried it on the laptop and noticed during the import that it was not all there in the preview image either. What I also found interesting was not only the missing 'fabric' but the extra 'fabric' in triangular sections from the top of the seat back to the seat front (see image). Seems strange that this was added somehow.
