Title: Door Knobs/Handles
Post by: ottotc on July 15, 2008, 06:05:51 PM

Re interior doors:
Anybody know an easy way to install knobs/handles?

Re exterior doors:
They have knobs/handles, but one side always has knob/handle by the hinge edge, instead of the opening edge.  Anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks,
Otto

Hi Otto,

Door knobs are not part of the program as such.  The ones in the Catalog Manager/Elements list (under Parts) are only for applying prices etc for the materials list.

I have attached as Zip of the 3DS file of a door knob I made that you may find useful. If you are not sure how to import it, try the Search as it has been covered before, or just ask again.  It will not move with the door, so if you open it you will have to move the knobs also.  It is easiest to position in 2D Designer's View. (Turn the Ceiling off and position exactly using the Nudge (arrow Keys). You will also have to turn Collison off.  You can see the polygons when it renders but looks OK from a distance.

The Exterior doors faces are just images. You can rotate them 180 degrees but if the door is not symetrical then they will look odd.  The only other way is to find the Textures folder and flip the image sideways using a 'Paint' program.  My folders is at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Application Data\IMSIDesign\TurboFLOORPLAN Home & Landscape Pro\Textures so yours is probably similar.

Allan-----

As always, thanks for the info.  For exterior, it sounds like nothing can be done if we want to be able to look at both sides of the door.  For interior, it would probably be a mess if the knobs can't move with the door.  They might be added in the absolute final edition of the project.  Assuming there ever is an absolute final.

another easier alternative is to apply a "texture" to an interior door.....

insert door, go to properties, appearance, materials and choose an existing door or generate your own .jpg image for desired looks

see pics below of a finished door and the properties dialog box for it
