OK, this should be a no-brainer, and that's what's so frustrating. I need to edit the length of a wall (make longer) and it needs to move in a particular direction - to the right on screen. Yes, I can stretch the wall by pulling on the right end, but I need to be fairly precise. So I display the dimesion, type in the new length, and the LEFT end moves! The bigger problem is that the left end is attached to another (vertical) wall, and that wall is also moving!
No matter what I try, I can't seem to lock that wall in place to force the new length to move to the right. And I've read ALL the documentation I could find.
not a good way to start. :'(
I also have this problem. I have the exterior perimeter of a given space defined (exterior walls, or just walls of room and wanting to add a closet), but when I try to adjust the interior walls by specifying dimensions, it adjusts in the wrong direction.
don't know if this will work....maybe I'll try it later too....
but in some programs, which end of an object was the "start" makes a difference when you enter data to change a length etc,
suggest trying to build a wall from one end, finish, adjust....then try build from the opposite end, finish, adjust and see if it makes a difference as to which end gets adjusted when you enter dimension data...or if the dimension is getting bigger or smaller.
worth a try?
I always set to "snap" and set snap grid to what I want or make the snap grid very small such as 0.01" or 1/64" (anything very small compared to what I'm willing to be satisfied with)...then always drag slowly near the finished size and can hit what dimension I want exactly. But then snap on/off is used more often....But TFP12 has that ability easily at bottom right edge of screen along with a few other on/off toggles.

I have considered doing the suggested test - building walls from opposite directions and testing the edit. But in the end it's irrelevent. When building a structure you can't possibly predict in which direction you'll want to do future edits.
There's also the matter of the different colored handles - NOWHERE can I find any documentation! Is there something here that affects the edit? I'm betting there is.
I am quickly becoming very disappointed in TFP! There are too many holes in the very basic stuff a novice needs to get up to speed quickly.
You are right that it will always move the attached wall into towards the centre of the model if you change the dimensions. However, if you highlight the wall you want to extend and use the keyboard arrow keys, you can Nudge the wall longer by whatever increment you want. If you set the Nudge value (Settings/Drawing Aids) to just 1 mm it will move in 1 mm increments away from the the other wall and the other walls will not move. The Nudge Default is 25 mm (1 inch). The Nudge option is very useful for precise positioning of elemnts of the drawing or extending/moving walls etc.
