Hi all,
Whenever I look at my drawing in 3D, my building materials have black lines running through them, and depending on the angle, or how close I am to the object, the lines can be more or less pronounced. Sometimes they look like Tiger stripes? I've downloaded the latest update, and I've tried with the 'Hardware Acceleration' both on & off. Are these 'tiger stripes' normal or do I have a setting wrong somewhere? When I move the camera in real close the stripes disappear, but I actually need to look at everything from a little greater distance.
Also, after installing the latest update, I've lost the default camera 'Perspective' and camera 'Overview'; is there a setting somewhere to turn them back on?
And finally, is it possible to change the Terrain size after a project has been started? I made a mistake and the Terrain length & width are twice what I want, but I can't seem to set them back to where they should be?
1. Viewing on screen, quality is limited by both your screen pixel density and a lo-res fast render...thus yielding some poor looking quality for views that have closely spaced lines....just ignore. Run a render to file and if the size and quality levels are sufficiently high, you will see the "lines" disappear...and materials should look great.
2. I opened your file and indeed the default cameras are missing. But all my other .bld files have them; so its the file. I suspect you mistakenly deleted them. No harm, make another .bld file and see if they show up. If you need them in this file, add new cameras, aim, rename to desired names of defaults.
3. Terrain size can be changed at any time...go to menu/settings/program settings/terrain and change them.

I am curious about your Tiger Stripes - I can't say I have seen anything like that myself, unless you have a texture that is causing a pattern because it is interacting with the pixels making up the computer screen. When you move in close there would be a much greater number of pixels for the same area of texture so the effect would go. I would be intested to see a screen print of the effect, as well as an exported image to see if they appear there also. I suspect the exported image (File/Export/2D image) or a render as Doug mentioned, will not show it. Come to think of it, the screen print may not show it either, if it is the pixel interaction. A photo of the screen would of course.

Hello Doug, Hello Allan,
Thanks for responding. My apologies if this reply comes through more than once; having trouble with attachments. As per Allan's request, attachments:
Trying one more time with attachments, all 4 are .jpgs, 2 are exported images, and 2 are print screen.
The problem you are talking about is the interaction of the lines in the texture (bricks and shutters). As you said they change if you move the camera and you will find they will change if you alter the resolution of your screen while looking at the TFP 3D view. There is nothing you can do about this ,as all screens are made up of lines of pixels, so there are always going to be lines in textures (especially bricks) that will create similar random patterns. You will sometimes see it on TV too when a newsreader, for example, has a striped suit or shirt.
The lines do not usually appear in the rendered image (see examples of your model below) although they possibly still could if the lines in the texture were bold enough, but would not appear when printed.
The rendered image has picked up a problem in your model also. The end wall in the top image has rendered black. This is because TFP is seeing the siding wall as an internal wall and expecting artificial light on it. I am not quite sure what you have done here, as there appears to be two walls in the same place, one being only 1" high. I presume this is because you wanted the two brick sections at each side, with the siding wall inbetween. This change of texture can be done using a single wall. Where you want the change in texture you just right clck and select break, and the same at the other end of the wall. You can then change the texture on the centre section. Because it is still a continuous wall, TFP will realise that it is an exterior wall (outside edges of an enclosed space) and render it correctly. At present it is seeing the siding wall as a piece of freestanding interior wall. We are hoping for a fix to this interior wall rendering bug with the next release. (V5 of Envisioneer is already being advertised so hopefully it wont be long!!)

Allan,
Thanks for the response. As far as the "tiger stripes", it's good to know it's not my PC or some setting I missed. And, in reference to your observation of the end wall, your're right, I do have a 1" brick wall elevated above the horizontal siding, and yes, it's because I wanted two brick sections on each side. I'll have to try using the 'break' method, now that you pointed out how to do it.

Hi Ray,
Just another thought on your end wall: If the centre section is thinner, (recessed in from the brick ends), you can also do that at the same time by just selecting the centre section and make it thinner. It will probably centre the wall creating a recess inside and out but if you want it flush on the inside and recessed on the outside only, then just select the middle section and move it over and it should snap to the inside surface.
I have tested this method and it does render correctly.

if you want a more detailed explanation of the results from line patterns...look up "moire" in Google or dictionary.
