Title: screen blacks out when inserting wall, door, window
Post by: Dutchie on December 29, 2008, 08:23:36 AM
Today I installed TFP v12 as a trial version, discovering it is the "same" as Envisioneer which I have used before.

After using the wizard to create a basic building, I try to insert interior walls, windows, doors, etc.

As soon as I move the cursor to indicate the wall on which I want to place the window (e.g.) the editing part of the screen becomes obscured. It can be partially hidden by a grey triangle, or only a triangle remains visible, or the screen becomes completely obscured. As soon as I move the cursor away from the insertion point, the screen returns to normal and everything is visible again.

The insertion itself works just fine, but it is very hard to do any serious work when unable to position insertions accurately.

I'm using a
- Toshiba Satellite laptop
- AMD Turion 64 X2 processor
- Windows Vista
- ATI Radeon X1200 graphics board
- 2 Gb RAM

The strange thing is that I had the same problem when using Envisioneer 3 or 4, one of the free versions available on the internet, so the error must be in some routine that hasn't changed between that version and the current version of the program.

I have tried to solve the problem using the Vista Compatibility Wizard but without succes .

I like the problem very much but with this glitch it's more or less useless.

Can anyone help?  :)

Hi Dutchie,

Welcome to the Forum.

My first question with any display issue is to ask it you have tried it with Hardware Acceleration turned off? (Settings/Program Settings/Graphics)  Many display issues occur with different computers/graphic card combinations so this may be one of them. (See this post for example http://forum.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,722.0.html (http://forums.turbofloorplan.com/index.php/topic,722.0.html) which may implicate ATI cards).

TurboFLOORPLAN is just a scaled down version of Envisioneer - a lot of the technical plan drawing capabilities have been removed, so as long as you were not hoping to produce plans for submitting to council then you should be fine - and MUCH cheaper.

Unfortunately my laptop doesn't allow me to change hardware acceleration.

I've never had any problems with other programs, as far as I remember. (I bought this laptop 9 months ago)

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi again,

You should be able to change it - it is a TFP setting, quite independent of any laptop settings. The directions I gave in the previous reply were TFP menu options not Windows options. It should work.

Allan,

Thank you VERY much. I can use TFP now! Great!

We have put in a request for this HA switch to be put onto the Status Bar along with Collision etc. so it is easy to switch over.  With it off you may find 'flying around' is jerky, so it would be nice to quickly switch it on/off as needed.  It affects different PC's in different ways.  One of mine is perfectly OK with it on all the time - they other I have to turn if off for Advanced rendering only.

Hopefuly the next version will have a simple on/off switch.
