I recently began having problems with the 2nd floor of my building. When working on the first floor and foundation, I can do whatever I like and not have an issue. I can switch to the second floor, no problem. I can click on any element on the second floor, but the moment I try to modify that element in any way, or if I try to add an element, the program freezes on me. I've tried repairing the project (twice) but this hasn't helped. Does anyone know what may have caused it and how I might repair it without starting over? I'm using TFP Home and Landscape Pro v.12.

I can understand why you do not want to start all over again! You have put a lot of work into it and a most interesting floorplan. It will be interesting to see some images when you have a completed.
Re the freezing: At first I thought the model itself was OK as I did not have any problem with it at all initially. I was able to insert, delete, move objects on all locations, so I presumed it must have been some issue with your PC. The model size is very large considering that you so not have any furniture etc. Nearly 2MB is big for just walls, so I thought that maybe the PC was having difficulties with it - but then why only on the second floor? However I played around with the floor levels etc (see comments below) and the freezing problem appears for me also.
Have you tried turning off the Hardware Acceleration? It does sometimes cause odd problems on certain PCs, so I would give that a try. (Go to the main menu, select Settings / Program Settings / Graphics and un-tick the Hardware Acceleration box). With HA off you may find moving around the model works a bit slower, again depending on the PC itself. However I tried with it off on mine and could not get any further.
Do you know what you added when it started playing up? You appear to have some invisible walls where your curved stairs are below. What are these "walls"? I cannot select them to see the properties to find out what they are. I am a little suspicious of these as they are the only unusual thing on the floor but cannot delete them either. I have tried repeatedly in the hope that it will work again as it was originally, but have had no success. I can select second floor things in 3D View and adjust them but still cannot select these 'invisible walls'. Do you have a backup from before they were inserted?
In 3D view I noticed on the ground floor of your model, that the second floor floors are showing protruding down into the rooms below leaving gaps where the second floor walls are. When I look at your Location settings they do not appear to leave any space floor itself of the second floor which by default is 1' thick. Ground floor is at 2' and walls are 11'. That makes 13' to the BOTTOM of the second floor and allowing 1' for the floor the second floor 'Floor Level' setting should probably be 14' not 13'.
TFP handles ceilings/walls/floors etc as follows: Normally Ceiling and Wall heights are the same. The Walls sit on top of the floor and the ceilings sit on the top of the walls, as does the floor of the room above (hence the ceiling is at the same point as the underside of the floor above). On the exterior walls the program drops the front of the wall appearance to cover the edges of the floor. While the wall is 11' for example, it extends down by 1' so you do not see the floor on the outside. (Note the setting on the Wall Properties).
I thought I would mention this as you may wonder later why you are getting grooves in the ceiling where there are walls on the second floor above. Maybe you have noticed this and that is why you have the ceiling set 1' lower. If you change the second floor 'Floor Level' to 14' and the first floor Ceiling Level to 11' then the wall gaps in the floor are covered when you insert the ceiling. The program will raise the walls when you change the setting but it will not raise any ceilings that you have already inserted. You can select and raise them or delete and insert again, which will be at the new level.
I hope all these Location settings comments do not confuse you - ask again if it is not clear. Obviously we need to get the model working again first!

HA is always off, I've never had it on, so I know that's not the issue. The problems started after I inserted a floor in the 2nd floor east wing hall, then removed a wall in that hall. I can't remember if it allowed me to do anything after that. I do know I had a room division on the second floor above the stairs, is that what you mean by "invisible walls?" If not, than that is probably the cause. Unfortunately I don't have a backup.
I was wondering about the grooves, so I'll change that. I have a couple rooms that are 2-story, but I can change the individual walls so that there are no gaps. Thanks for the help.
EDIT: I tried deleting all the flooring on the 2nd floor. This seems to have solved the problem, as I was then able to delete the room divisions.
Sorry, I did mean a Room Division. It was called an Invisible Wall in the previous versions.
Good to hear that you have it operational again. I would suggest you turn the auto backup on and also do regular saves with a new name - just in case.
All the best with it and don't forget to let us see some images when you are happy with it. It is certainly a very different plan and obviously a lot of work has gone into it.
