Title: Importing Textures
Post by: crumbum on March 07, 2009, 03:56:22 PM
Allen,

I wanted to thank you for those additional log textures.  Now, how do I get them into my program to use?  I dont remember how I did it in FP3D and although the Help Menu in TFP says I can, it doesnt tell me how?  Thanks

Randy

Hi Randy,

That is much easier than FP3D was:

1. Open the Properties (of anything)
2. select Appearance
3. click on the texture image,
4. select the Group into which you would like the new texture to go
5. right click in the Materials part of the box (thumbnails)
6. click Add
7. give the new texture a name
8. click Use Texture
9. click Select and browse to the texture.

In that dialog there are a number of other settings, most of which you do not need (if you chose the Group first) but you may set the tiles size (scale) or Rendering Effects (shine , transparency etc) but more often than not you mould make these settings if necessary when you use the texture.

The two images may help - the numbers above do not relate to the numbers on the images!

It is easy to make your own textures if you want and if you have suitable photoediting software. The main this is to get the brightness even accross the whole of the texture area otherwise you will get a checkered effect as it tiles. Usually they are saved as 128 or 256 pixels square but they do not necessarily have to be square.
