Title: Reversing Building Image
Post by: Dale on May 02, 2009, 01:43:56 AM
Hi,

I drew a small 4000sf commercial office/shop building and using the design wizards on a generic blank workspace. I commenced the project as I had not selected a building location.  I initially chose a 2 acre commercial property; however, I determined that the site preparation was too expensive.  I have since selected a different 2 acre commercial acreage (site) which may be less costly to grade.  The new site required that I flip the building image.

I consulted the forum, and I have been successfull in flipping my building image.  Now, I need to move it.  I have tried the suggestion(s) from the other posts regarding allowing turning off the hardware accelleration.  The building simply will not move.  I tried redefining the lot size.  This did allow the mirrored buiding to be inside the generic site boundary.  I can select all of the building; but, I cannot move the building.  Any new suggestions?

Should I start a new drawing and define the lot size and terrain like I did the last time by importing dxf into Turbocad...saving and then importing the Turbocad terrain into the existing Turbofloorplan project and containing my building as a trace image (jpg)...Generating a terrain with the wizard...Turning off or deleting the old trace image once it it traced....Can I manipulate the new terrain around the building and/or the drawing workspace?...and since I cannot move the building?  -  There must be a better way!  I've had so much trouble with trying to lay out the terrains.  I wish the IMSI software designers would pick up on all of these terrain difficulties..............

There should not be any need to redraw it if moving is the only problem.  Terrain and boundary are really irrelevant to the building and should have no effect on moving the building itself.  The site boundary just marks your 'fence line' so to speak, so it is not actually anything. I have been using the program almost daily for 10 years or so and I have never used it.  Usually I have a fence on the boundary so that marks it anyway.  Terrain can be as big as you like, more or less, as it is just something to be there so you have something solid under the building (otherwise you would just have sky!) so making that bigger will mean your building will be on the terrain even if not in the middle.

Anyway, to move the building a few things are necessary, so you may have missed one:

1.  Go to Settings/Program Settings/Building Aids and temporarily untick the box "Select elements on current location only while in plan view" (if you have more than one location).

2.  On the Status Bar deselect COLLISION (lights can prevent movement if Collision is on).

3.  On the menu go to Edit/Select All (or Ctrl A).

4.  Right click select Move and drag the model to the new position.

5.  If it still won't move, go to View/View Filter - Elements on Terrain tab and temporarily turn off Terrain (eye symbol) and try to move again.

When you have moved it don't forget to go to Program Settings and re-tick the box "Select elements on current location only while in plan view" and turn Terrain back on.

If it still does not move you may have to attach the BLD file so we can have a look what the problem is.  I could not quite follow the comments about TurboCAD/DXF/Terrain although I seem to recall a previous post about that to do with getting the terrain right but if just moving the building is the basic problem, then hopefully one of the above steps will solve it without the need to redraw etc.

Let us know how you get on with it.
