Hi All,
Are there problems with importing sketchup files that I should look out for. I'm using sketchup 7 to make exterior structures and every time I try to import them, nothing happens. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I assume you are using TFP V12 as V14 will import SKP V7 files but V12 wont. SKP 7 was released after V12 so it does not know what they are obviously.
Unless you were planning to upgrade to V14 you may be able to save them as V6 to import into TFP V12.

Thanks, sometimes you just need someone to point out the obvious for you... I'll try to keep my stupid questions to a minimum... saving them to skp v.6 works perfectly. BTW, do you recommend upgrading to TFP 14?
I understand the US upgrade price is just $49 so I think it is great value. Have a look at the post V14 Whats New etc and see if the new features are worth it for your purposes. Actually I still keep finding new things since I started that thread!

I've inquired and found/was quoted v14pro is either $70 ($US) or $80 (2 different sources, IMSI was one of them) and have yet to find it for $50....at $50 I'm willing to purchase; higher price its not worth it to me. I never got an "invitation" to upgrade tho I've been a long time customer at ver 3,8,9,10,11,12. Guess IMSI is not very interested in trying to advertise to make more sales.

I am in Australia as you know so prices change all time as exchange rates fluctuate so I have no idea what it is really. The $49 was mentioned in another thread by Robert I think (robban) and stated a couple of times confirming that it was not the Deluxe version he was referring to. Maybe you could send him a personal message to find his source.
It appears IMSI Design does not do email marketing as IMSI used to. I have not had anything since they went separate ways after V11. Seems strange when it is the cheapest and probably most effective form of marketing. I know they have a heavy focus on TurboCAD but I dont get those promotions anymore either.

You are correct Allan, but the price is $49.99 upgrade price for pro-version I got that price from a salesperson on IMSI Design then I phone them. You need a promotion code.

Monte Carlo Meal, Monte Carlo Ice and Capri coffee automate.
Add some framing under the ceiling with help of members that i have done in layout tool cc 600 by 800 25X35 solid rect member the walls is 10mm glass.

What is a .bim file for? I thought SU materials files are .skm

Hi Doug,
The BIM file (Building Information Management (or Modelling in some circles)) is used to share items from the Catolog. The Catalog Manager has an Import BIM and Export BIM. You can use this file to transfer elements from one catalog to another - when you install a new version of the program for example, you can export the elements from your old catalog into the new one using the BIM file. Same file is used by manufacturers to share copies of their 3D products sometimes too.

I downloaded your BIM file but although the file on the Forum was over 1100KB the file I got was only 80KB and, when imported, all I got was 2 grey boxes and the Capri was a red box with a grey rectangle. The images did not appear to transfer even though I imported the whole folders, one of which was called Pictures. Similarly I have the Sketchup Materials folder, with all the colours in it that were in the BIM file, but they are not on the model itself and there is no way to apply them. I downloaded several times and imported several times.
Looks like we may have experiment with this more so you may like to try this test one and see what you get. It is not actually anything useful but uses only standard TFP wood textures and one colour (Red). It will be interesting to see if it transferred correctly.

The rest of the catalogs are already in TFP. However according to Cadsoft additional manufactures BIM catalogs are expected.
Am I correct in assuming .bim files only work in v14 and don't work in v12 ?

Yes, as I recall they were introduced in V14. The function is under File / Catalogues / Import and Export BIM. They are excellent to transfer objects as the Materials and everything else transfers too and go into the appropriate place. Ideal between users and for Manufacturers products too.
