Hi, i am trying the trial version and would appreciate advice on how to create a cavity wall?
I am trying to create a brick outer skin, block inner skin & cavity insulation between. I can see how to create a brick wall and then a blcok wall but it sees it as 2 seperate walls so if you put a door into the wall it only creates the opening in the brick & not block.
So is there a way to create a cavity wall as 1 unit?
Thanks Paul
Hi Paul,
Welcome to the forum.
You should find a brick veneer cavaity wall already in the catalog. The Exterior Brick Wall should be that way, as long as you join 4 walls to make a room the brick veneer should appear on the outside with a cavity to the framed wall in plan view.
I have attached 2 BIM files (Imperial and Metric). You can import these into your catalog (File / Catalog / Import BIM) - their proportions may be better than the existing ones.

Hi
Cavity walls are something that always concerns people new to hosue design software.
It is however an irrelevance.
CAD drawings rarely include cavity wall details. The wall construction should be indicated in text on the drawings and in the notes.
This is because construction of the same type of wall can vary. For example in the UK a wall containing a door does not have to have sound insulation whereas a wall with no door has to have sound insulation. In this case the construction is the same (stud with plaster board) but the spec is different.

Hi Allan
Many thanks for your help, have got it to work now.
Peter, yes the detail of the construction should be in text, however i could not even show it was a double wall construction.
Anyway all sorted now so thanks again Allan
Kind regards
Paul
